watermelon man

Bridges aside, I have more pressing things on my mind and as usual they focus on my community. I’m not gonna say that we killing our own over peanuts, but it may turn out to be such if and when the assailants are caught. Yesterday here in the metro Atlanta area, a man was shot to death early while selling watermelons from the back of a truck in Chamblee.

Juan Morales was killed on his 39th birthday and lived in a rural area of Georgia were he served as the pastor of a church. They say this married father of one, was accosted by two men who asked about the prices of his watermelons. All it too was one shot. Police say four men in a silver Cadillac tried to rob them and that one of the men pulled out a gun and shot Morales.

I do not know about you, but over watermelons? Or over the price of watermelons? Is it that bad that folks are s lazy that they would rather rob and kill that put in a god 40 hrs a week? I feel sorry for this mans family and his friends and even more so for our community. I just hope when they find them, they are not Black and are not from New Orleans, because we have seen an unfortunate rash of criminal activity in the Atlanta area from the hands of transplanted folk from the boot- mostly African American males. Thanks Mr. President for saying you love the black folks displaced by Katrina. How can I belive thes when you spend more money rebuilding Iraq than you do for them?

Unfortunately you are so right! The rash of senseless killings is crazy...could it be the heat? The loss of income, high gas prices...or have these fools just lost their ever loving minds? I don't know, but no place is safe, our kids are being killed over popularity, $20, and watermelons???? for Gods Sake! what next! Great post!

I live in Atlanta and I am sick over the disregard that we have for each other. My friends cousin, a young, black male trying to work a job and make it was found dead two days ago with three shots to his abdomen. A capitalistic society can only exist if there are poor people. Some of these poor, disenfranchised, sometimes but not always lazy people take it upon themselves to take from those of us who work. Not only that, people not only steal, they will kill for no apparent reason. I mean, you have the money, why do you have to take the life? There is just a general disregard for life that frightens me.

We too here in the BRC as well as Houston are having the same ill crime stats. And it's unfortunate it stems from our neighbors who are obviously exasperated by the conditions and outcome of Katrina.

This is so sad and senseless. Another one lost to foolishness.

I feel you on this. I was at a friends house the other day and we were talking about the bridge in Minneapolis and the news was on. Oddly we all were turn off by the continuous report of violent crimes and misfortunate events...one after another. We decide on a vote to turn because it was depressing? WoW! It's getting worse everyday, but what scares me is the fast pace at which it is growing.

Very insightful post on what is daily life for the many of us.
Its so sad and ridiculous that our world and some of its occupants have had to resort to such acts. :(

I've only read two of your postings after finding your blog...and this was only by chance...I've so enjoyed reading your postings :)

Thanks for sharing with us.

Sincerely

Luci

There is something about the evil present in this generation. People just don't value life anymore. I'm not saying it was a bed of roses when we were growing up, but this shit that's being perpetrated now is just crazy. These are strange times we live in.
