clemen----cy

Go figure, but seems to me before the Mitchell Report came out, each and every day, some where in the United States someone was talking about Barry Bonds, his use of steroids, and their often fatuous purview (since use of HGH is not illegal in baseball) and how they think he should have some ridiculous reminder behind his homerun record. Many of these folks are in many cases likely afflicted with respect to laying sport proficiently in the first place. And like magic, all of this talk stopped. Mainly because the folks who were talking made such sweeping statements that they have to eat crap with respect to who they think worthy to be in the hall-of-fame. Many said Barry, because of this would never make it.

The Mitchell Report named some of the golden boys: Rick Ankeil, Eric Gagne, Chuck Knoblauch, Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemons.

While being interviewed on 60 Minutes by Mike Wallace, Roger Clemens said he was never injected with illegal performance-enhancing drugs by his former trainer Brian McNamee, who told former senator George Mitchell he injected Clemens with steroids in 1998 and with steroids and human growth hormone in 2000 and 2001. Mitchell released his report on illegal performance-enhancing drugs in baseball last month. I looked at the show and saw him basically trying to save face. I aint gonna say he lying, but.....

Now maybe i am stupid, but if it takes a physician to prescribe lidocaine, why didn't a doctor do the injections? Moreover, he never mentioned that he had received any injections from his trainer in any of his previous denials regarding steroid use. Not to mention he was not a Biology major while at the University of Texas.

Since the Report, nobody talking about or picking on Barry Anymore. Add to that, now the same folks who said that he should not be in the hall of fame or that his record is tainted, will have to say the same about the names I called out earlier and that makes me happy. Unfortunately, since such is the case, they do not even discuss Steroid use in baseball and the assorted implications much anymore. No Barry, no steroids unless like 60 minutes. They didn't eve run a show on the topic until the goldenboy himself was called out. Last week I was using allogory and my understanding of Moliere's Tartuff to explain hipocracy. This is another prime example. I mean its like the governors in the world of sports talk have given the aforemention, and Mr. Bonds by default clemency, a pardon, a commutation of sentence, or a reprieve.

So I think the moral of the story is it is ok to throw stones at glass houses unless the house got members of your family inside. Meaning if Roger gets in, so must Bary both with or with out an asterisk.

  1. yeah no one is asking for Roger to return his CY young awards. the stories don't dominate the sports talk shows like they did when they where lynching Barry everyday. nobody once questioned how the over 40 pitcher kept coming back, but always wondered how Barry could mash like he does.

    Baseball is a joke.

  4. When they thought the steroid use was limited to a few guys, they went on a witch hunt. Once they realized that it's rampant throughout the sport, they shut their mouths. They don't want to dethrone the kings of the sport or no one will pay the big bucks for a ticket. It's about money, period. They thought they could act concerned and proactive about drug usage, only it backfired and they found out that all of the big names were involved in one way or another. I guess they think that if they just ignore it now, people will still fill the stadium. The almighty dollar is a powerful thing.

  6. I think money and the perception of power are the biggest reasons our country is on the downslide lately. We all talk of racism (I'm Italian and Spanish...but my family is from Spain. Since I'm not "latina" I'm not Spanish enough for the hispanic community) but I really think that green is the only color that matters to those in charge. If you're not green, or you can't get them more green, you're worth nothing.

  10. Thanks. I appreciate the kind words. Many of the people who read my blog think I'm nuts to rant about politics and government, which makes me think that's exactly why things are the way they are...people don't THINK.

And yep, my kitchen always has something good in it. I make a legendary lasagna, which might only be beaten by my paella...best of both worlds!

  12. Bonds probably caught more slack because he doesn't bow down the way "they" perhaps want him to. Then, you already know how they consider Babe Ruth to be as American as apple pie, even though Ruth could stand a watching himself.

MLB is pointing a finger when they knew, benefited, and continues to benefit from The Steroid Era.

    Who zoomin' who?

  13. The thing about it, is that like Roger said, "they don't help you perform better." If you look at the list of names on the report, the argument of steriods as an advantage is pretty much deaded. The majority of the list are players that make you say "who?" I read somewhere that Barry's average homerun was somewhere around 473 ft. That's a smash. Not to mention Barry was on a record pace as the skinny Barry back in Pitt. Essentially, fuck all this steriod talk, lets talk about something that matters....like the Cleveland Indians and that racist ass mascot.

  14. Yea, no one has even asked or suggested that he return his awards or that his records be marked

  15. I gotta co-sign. Honestly, this entire generation of baseball players should be banned from entering the hall of fame, if they're basing votes on steroid or HGH use...

On a side note, is it just me, or was that David Justice interview immediately after the Mitchell Report was released some of the funniest shit ever!? Lol.

  20. Baseball IS a joke, but what is even more a joke is the ignorance of the public that likes professional sports.

Any fool has to know that these professional athletes are able to perform the way that they do because they are 'enhanced'. As a competitive bodybuilder, anabolic steroid use is very prevalent and in the sport of bodybuilding, the fans like the guys that look like freaks; they have muscle on top of muscle. Even they (fans of top bodybuilding) are smart enough to know that those "types" of physiques are not built with just a solid diet rooted in protein and carbohydrates. Let's be real!

There is not top-level amatuer or professional sport that is not marred with drug enhancement, but it is what 'we' the public expect. Look at the professional football and how these guys have evolved over the years; stronger, faster, and more defined. This ain't natural folks!

When it is all said and done, I do not judge anyone that chooses to use drugs in professional sports. It is what it is. And h_ll, if a team or a company is paying 50 million dollars a year to run a ball down a court, throw a ball down the field, kick a ball into a net, or drive a car in circles 500 times, then you better perform at the the best level possible, which is typically done with some "help".

Marcus - you said that so well, its just a game anyway, and I cant belive hey would spend m money investigating baseball when kids leave the 4th grade unable to read

Don - ditto, now back to u tell me bout the books u working on, hope aint nosey

  23. I hate baseball it is so boring. Someone told me that it only is boring if you don’t understand it and I definitely don’t understand it. It’s still boring.

A lot of athletes are starting to get caught up in a bunch of stuff, under aged sex, cheating, dogfights, steroids, etc. Are they just as bored with their lives as I am with baseball?

  24. Look at the Rocket back in his Texas days...before he completely lost his mind. Being a Texan, a Longhorn...I like Roger the baseball player. But right now, Roger the man has loss his mind.

Considering Mitchell's ties to the Redsox's I am sure Selig thought that Mitchell would not truly look into the matter. Well, know Bud and the MLB has a mess on their hands...I am quite sure more fingers will be pointed before this is all said and done.

  25. mspuddin - i love baseball, not boring when u lying, anywho, its all a hustle, and been that way since they started payin all that loot to players

  26. I do not believe Clemens when he says he didn't do roids. Another point is that there is only hearsay evidence against Clemens while with Barry there is documentation of his use of roids.

It broke my heart to read the Mitchell report, but it also made me realize that baseball now has a Steroid Era.

I welcomed the report, I am glad it names some well known names in it, this might remove some of the heat from Barry, since as you say, they must judge all these guys just like they judged him.

My sports blog has plenty of posts on Barry and now on Clemens and the report. I hold no one out for special treatment..they are all cheaters..regardless of stature or color. They should all suffer the pain of being exposed as a cheater..every last one of them.

Pitchers have been nailed almost to a 3-1 margin for using roids, because they took it not to become better at the sport, but to heal quicker so they could play more often. It's still cheating to me..regardless of their excuses for using them.

A true baseball fan will want them all to be treated the same: No Hall of Fame for any of them. And yes, I believe the Rocket's Cy's should have an asterisk next to them.A scarlet letter as it were...
