OB

Were I'm from, flip town, one town, bluff city, flip town – Memphis; them young boys had a saying called OG. It meant original gangster. Albeit I have never been involved in any thing remotely gangster or regarding being a thug, I was often called and considered an OG by them young cats. In particular them that were in the same social club.

See we did not claim such for on the one had we all got along and would never drive by and shot somebody over petty shit that would put am other person other than the target at risk an innocent person getting injured over a small business conundrum. Yep, them were the days.

Seem that the gang problem has gotten worse if you asked me, and no I’m not talking about Crips, Bloods, Vice Lords or Gangster Disciples, nope I’m talking about these Bankers. Seems that bankers just don’t get it. First It was Madoff, I mean really his indication that he didn’t like jail and that he would prefer to be on house arrest in his penthouse mansion. Then the folks at Goldman Sachs, talking about how they suffering because now when they travel they have to stay in places like Embassy Suites now versus the Ritz-Carlton or the Carlyle. And before all of this, the tirade by that dumb fuck, CNBC's reporter Rick Santelli on the floor of the stock exchange. Santelli, a former financial executive himself, also served as managing director at the Derivative Products Group of Geldermann, Inc., and was Vice President in charge of Interest Rate Futures and Options at the Chicago Board of Trade for Drexel, Burnham, Lambert.

Not to mention it seems also that the folks at the FDIC [Sheila Bair] as well as the SEC [Mary Schapiro] were all former Bankers and the ones that got us into this mess by looking out or worse the other way for their fellow Banking gang members. Bankers don’t give a fuck about the common man, the investor, the home owner. Not to mention it should have been folk on places like CNBC that should have smelled all of this crap as opposed to dumb laymen as myself. But instead, they Applauded folks like former Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain when he is appointed as such, but want to grill him after the fact.

I say they should change the name of the gang task force to the banker task force and chase them down wherever they are. They should put these folks in prisons all around the country so they can handle themselves when the face the Mexican Mafia, Crips or the Aryan Nation while on lock down. Maybe even give them the death penalty and apply the three strike rule as well. So I ask you who the real gangsters are. And I also suggest that we call them what they really are – O B’s (the Original Bankers).

I have been saying for a minute that they need to prosecute and jail these greedy bankers, I think you are right they are the real gangsters, pimps and hustlers. Its sad that a weed dealer or user can get more time and get prosecuted quicker than these greedy snakes. And you are not a dumb laymen, you are an informed American....

Ever considered being a political and/or economic commentator?

We need to hear you on CNBC speaking for the working class.

Well the real Gangsters always wear suits and are more into organized crime and always seem to get away with the shit they do with nothing more than a slap on the hands when they get caught. They get arrested for dumb shit like Tax avasion.

Where is the accountability for these OGs? You know Madoff talked all that junk about his shame and now his lawyer his appealing so he can go back to the penthouse before sentencing.

What has gone down with these OGs reminds me of your post about the monkey comic strip and how it didn't offend you and how we get in an uproar about little stuff and remain silent on the big.

We and I mean a collective we who care about injustice SHOULD have been doing all that marching and boycotting and protesting about how these bankers have ROBBED people and have caused financial ruin in the lives of MILLIONS.

You're dead on and these banking OGs are DEAD WRONG.

This post is spot on regarding bankers. I have maintained for awhile that they are getting away with criminal acts.

It would be nice to see them rounded up and put on trial. The message would make its way to other bankers that the days of jilting people out of their money without any consequences are over.

GOODENess said...

I have always said the BEST gangsters adn criminals have never seen the inside of a cell...if the same rues applied to them that applied to the rest of the world, we wouldn't have to worry about them at all, they would be murder/suiciding themselves at epidemic rates!

and the whining that the phat cats are doing about their less than luxurious accomodations and "budgeting" restrictions is nauseating! How the hell can you possibly complain about steak instead of lobster when there are people that can't afford to eat at all due to the bullshit decisions that were made w/ their money by these same steak eating punks!

I agree w/ "IntrospectiveGoddess" you need to be on CNN, CNBC, etc...with a glass of vino in hand, dropping knowledge on these lames!

You don't need to look at the multi-million, billion dollar deals that bankers make for themselves in order to see they don't give a damn about the common man.

Just look at the fees and the nickles and dimes that they charge you each time you even look in their direction. And don't even think about using a credit card from them, that's like asking to be raped by people who don't even have the decency to use protection or lube. In fact if you can find a bank that you can have $1000 dollars in at the beginning of the year and you still have at least $950 at the end of it without making any further deposits or withdrawls of your own, then you've found a keeper.

On the contrary, they get it. They got it long ago. By now it's elementary. "Give me control of a nations money supply, and I care not who makes it’s laws" - Mayer Rothschild.

Very fine post, Torrance. Very fine comments all around.

I particularly like the words of SOULPOWER, CURIOUS, AND NICKI NICKI TEMBO, aw shit, INTROSPECTIVE GODDESS's comment is great...they're all great.

They remind me of a stanza of an English folk song about crime and punishment which I've always liked:

"...I said there is no justice/As they led me out the door/The Judge said this isn't a court of justice, son/This is court of law..."

People want JUSTICE now when they should have been asking for LAW years ago. Bernard Madoff is the least of "justice-seeker's" problem. He's very likely to serve life in prison with no parole.

The problem is that the laws are not quite air-tight enough to bring Bush, Cheney, Paulson, Greenspan, Bernanke, Fuld, Thain, the 100s just like them...and BARACK OBAMA to the bar.

I don't see why Bush, Cheney, Powell, Rice, Rumsfeld, Armitage, Gates, Petraeus, McCain, Lindsay Graham and Obama shouldn't face war crimes charges in The Hague. JUSTICE has nothing to do with that. There are LAWS on the books sufficient to try them. Right now.

Thain, for example, is not going to do 25 years in Marion. Forget it. Full stop. There are no federal or state laws under which he could be prosecuted and sentenced like that. There could have been. There aren't. Cries for "JUSTICE" here while appropriate are materially speaking merely cries for "VENGEANCE."

Instead of a pipe-dream of vengeance, how does a trip back to first principles sound? Forget about Thain. Why not make PROPORTINAL SENTENCING and PERSONAL FREEDOM going forward the cause? How does no capital punishment sound? How does a reform of all drug laws such that being a flesh-and-blood human is no longer a felony sound? How does an end to the incarceration of children as young as 13 with adults at the rate of 250,000/year sound? [IT ALL SOUNDS GREAT TO ME]

If anyone wants to storm the Bastille, don't do it over Thain or Stanford's greed. Do it over the "constitutionality" of executing 16 and 17-year old children.

Do it over the concept of 5 years of sexual bondage NOT being a proportionate sanction for auto theft.

But what do I know? I was part foreign by birth and getting more so by the minute.

This is your country, not mine. Ask yourself if this is the kind of place you want to live.

You really do have the power, you know? Maybe a President Barack Obama was an interesting concept at the outset, but now that praxis and concept are at odds, is it that great?

Maybe you want a Republic not an Empire. I really don't know.

I do know that America's youth and African-America has the power to start a new dialogue. If it appears that the President is wobbling in his Youth and African-American approval ratings, all America will start to get a fairer shake or the Union will not stand.

In less precarious times, the least worst is not a bad thing.

Right now, with China starting to threaten to void itself of US Treasuries, I think it is high time to ask your leaders to be NELSON MANDELA, MAHATMA GANDHI, MICHELLE BACHELET, BORIS YELTSIN.

Gosh, wouldn't you settle now for Fredrik DeKlerk, Eduardo Frei or Mikhail Gorbachev about now? If only to get more responsible people running Treasury, The Federal Reserve, "Defense," the NSA, and "Fatherland" Security. Am I wrong?

You have nothing to lose but your Tivo'd Chris Brown update (if I may steal a Torrance Stephens joke).

They all need to be locked away in some dungeon and chained to the walls where they don't see the light of day and nobody will ever see them again. But perhaps that is being easy on them.

KELSO'S NUTS said...

@ RAINYWALKER:

I disagree with you.

Let's say what you want happens to "them." Are you better off?

Furthermore, what happens when the new boss empowered to put Thain away without due process comes for you?

Again, I live in a republic not an empire. So, there's probably something I'm missing. It's the punishment-fetish, I think. We do things differently down here. When President Torrijos was elected in 2004, he changed the criminal laws alright. Small amounts of drugs for personal use became decriminalized. The police became demilitarized. Life sentences were done away with. Non violent criminals were to be punished non-violently. We got anti-discrimination law with TEETH.

And, yes, it's true that Torrijos is a kind man by and large, but there was a practical reason for it also. He wanted budget room for tax cuts for housing development. And he got 5 straight years of at least 9% economic growth, the last two being while the US began to sink.

If a jailer is what you want to be, you are not DIFFERENT from "THE BANKERS". You are "THE BANKERS."

It's been a while Brotha T. and it's good to be back around at your spot.

I like your term 'OB' and that's as original as it gets. When I read your post, I couldn't agree more with the comment you made about CNBC and then not "catching" on to this travesty that just unraveled right under their noses. So much for Jim Cramer and all of his over-the-top antics on his 'Mad Money' show. The great Cramer didn't see all of this mess coming down in a firestorm of economical tragedy!? That's why Jon Stewart chinchecked him the other day on his show.

And the nerve of Bernie Madoff wanting house arrest before going to prison-what an a**hole to think he can live out his last little bit of luxury

My hubby talks about this, CORPORATE WELFARE - all the time. Folks beat up on the poor mother getting food stamps trying to feed her kids but BIG CORPS, who steal folks money, gov't money and pocket sh*t while the economy WORLD WIDE goes bankrupt get pats on the back and sh*t.

Poor little "OctoMom" is on Oprah and every show under the sun - but the REAL welfare kings go unnoticed, while they stacking so much money that even they great-great-great grand kids won't even be able to spend it all.

Dawg: Nicki got it right. They wanted control of the money supply and they got it, including control of the government treasury through this "stimulus package."

I think Obama should quit listening to his Hard professor Larry Summers, think outside the box, and set up national govenment national banks, employing bankers that have not been a part of the scandal. Also, he should better utilize relatively smaller bankers, many of whom ran their banks and are still running them, making profits despite the terrible economy.
