wow

This is the America that I have imagined, the one I have read versed in the words of Paul Lawrence Dunbar, the one Henry Clay spoke of and the one Fredrick Douglas desired. Flags waving by men and women, straight and gay, adult and child, republican and democrat, white and black. All acting as if family and friends, regardless of beliefs or affiliation, as if they are amenable to the perception that one does not have to agree or see eye to eye to walk hand in hand or side by side.

Just an open thread the day after. What were your first words, mine was wow. Facing West, looking over the graves of the many that have died for this great nation as well as the monuments. Just the thought, 45 years ago, blacks and whites could not sit together, without fear of being arrested, or vote. To just see all them folks standing on a former slave market (the Mall) and just to recant in the days of Thurgood Marshall, that he could not even eat in the places that served food, even as a Supreme Court Justice, because of his skin color. As Lincoln said in his second inaugural address “malice towards none, and charity for all”. Inspire Mr. Obama, Inspire, and we will be critical, for the burden of greatness and history demands such. Again – WOW.

I said WOW too.

My daughter was able to watch the ceremony at school which I felt was thoughtful of the administration.

Then I got home watched the parade & was still in disbelief. I drank & smoked my back out as if I were at ALL 10 balls with President Obama & The First Lady!!!

Still gives me chills when I say it....

WOW

I said "Amen". I watched it with the Sun's entire school, squeezed into their library. The principal made the elementary kids cheer with a "silent cheer" (arms waving) until after the last blessing. The kids then erupted into cheers.... and I said "Amen".

I just wept...said "Thank God." I kept my little one home from school yesterday. They had no intention of having the 1st graders watch the inauguration. She's not quite old enough to understand just how profound that moment was, but she will always know where she was when Mr. Obama was inaugurated, and that will definitely be one of those "Where were you when" moments for generations to come. Because of her language disability, she calls him "Omama," which is cute. She watched him approach the podium and said "Mommy, Mr. Omama's cute..he looks like a nice guy!" We just sat together and listened. It was a beautiful moment.

It was was really moving...being that i went to do my service project the day before at Mt. Zion cemetery in Georgetown and you could see the GREAT distrinction between those who were enslaved and those who owned them just in terms of the two different cemeteries how they were kept up and/or NOT kept up...it extremely heart breaking and then the very next day to see all people come together in peace and in love to see this country move forward as ONE was beautiful to me...you know...no arrest no issues no drama just all family there together to see history made...

yea it was something that i never thought i would see and am truly blessed and thankful that at least one of my grandparents was here to see it...

Black intelligence, Black love, the Black family for all the world to see and then AMERICA embracing EVERYONE it was awesome

Amazing... was the words that came over me.

Everyone in the office tried to stream it that the network had to be restarted. It was crazy. We all ended up going to the bar sparking up random conversation with people. The spirit that has come about because of this should be ever lasting. I hope it sticks.

Yes, I cried. I couldn't bear to be amongst the crowds but felt the excitement through the tv.

Glad you were able to let down your guard enough to enjoy and reflect sans any prejudice...

You know I reveled in the day's events... all the while, in my mind's eye, focusing on the promise inspired millennia ago in the Greek Senate, by the prophet that believed we should treat others as we would be treated... the Magna Carta which 'explicitly protected certain rights of the King's subjects' and, finally, to the realization of the promise intrinsic to our Constitution... a tribute to the ideas and ideals of the great thinkers of the day (eg. Jefferson and Paine) the framers of this great experiment... that which you and I would feel is intuitive, has taken some 200+ years to realize.

Pretty cool that we got to see it, live it and share it with ours ~regards

Very interesting time in terms of history...I would love to see how well he is going to do to make the changes he committed to.

I didn't really have a reaction, other than "good, I captured on my little vid camera the jumbotron showing the oath."

As I said over at my spot, I viewed the ceremony as a formality, albeit a historic one.

It was the election outcome that almost had me crying. Yesterday wouldn't have been possible without the election.

I kept saying overwhelming, because that what it was to me. It was especially overwhelming to older blacks who somehow lived apartheid in the South: Not just the lynchings but the dad-to-day small but accumulating fear, indignities and humiliations. And then to see one of their own become the leader of this country...I can't describe the look of overwhelming gratefulness and relief. Too overwhelming.

i am thrilled that the color barrier to the presidency has been broken.... but even more anxious to find out if this will ever stop being about color,,, and be about some real life politics.. change all that stuff they all promise and never deliver...

i am open minded,, but politician has always been a red flag for me.. never black or white.........

It was nothing like I ever imagined it would be.

While I watched the coverage on C-Span, I learned a lot about what goes on during the transition of power. Which was pretty interesting.

When I finally saw the size of the crowd-and the number of people who came out to witness Obama's swearing in-I was blown away mentally!

It surpassed my imgination.
Which is cool with me.
