But that is not why I am writing this. What really got under my nerves was the response from the 38 year old GOP representative for cathode Ray tube time - Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. On the one hand he dogs Obama’s proposal (as I do) with respect to big government but at the same times talks big government talk asserting that the federal government should mandate energy efficiency and alternative and renewable fuels,
He also addressed health care, saying to a certain extent that there is no role for the government in health care; suggesting that universal government run health care would be bad for the economy when the truth is that jobs are going over seas because other countries do not require for businesses to pay health care benefits for their workers.
Jindal as most Republicans just do not get it. In fact, what I read would suggest that the Democrats don’t either, but more so the GOP. They need to accept that the politics of the Regan area, the politics that started this economic crisis, are over and done and that they should stick a fork in them. It has taken 30 years but them days are finally over. And for Jindal to imply that the President’s budget plan is irresponsible, without reading it is scary to me. Not to mention all this talk of tax cuts, for the wealthy, as opposed to not for all boarders on being foul. What’s wrong with all Americans paying their fair share of taxes? Now that’s a thought.
I don’t know what Steele, or any of the GOP saw in Jindal except for the fact he is young, an ethnic minority, and can’t speak assertively (from the transcript I read). For certain, he ain the Jedi Knight they desire for him to be.

Hello! I would love to hear your thoughts regarding my most recent blog post.
Also, I have some questions about your business in ATL. I'm interesting in starting a business there soon...
Raw,
How much in terms of specifics can we expect to hear in a speech? Not much, so my eyebrows are not raised at this point. If details are not provided on the various .gov sites or elsewhere per the President's promised transparency, then I'd get a little worried.
As for Jindal, he's just a young man being used to turn the GOPs old tricks. I think he's a bright guy but can end up being a wasted talent for them if last night was any indication.
Peace.
The GOP is trying to get back to the White House by using classless and divisive tactics of Newt Gingrich, by insulting women by promoting Sahrah Palin and insulting the rest of us by marketing unskilled men of color like Jindahl.
It shows how stupid they think Americans are. They've failed so far.
Affimative Action, Republican style...backfires in their face. Couldn't happen to a nice bunch of bitter jerks.
Love the Jedi Knight reference...LOL!
I saw that bullshit. What you didn't see or hear in the transcript was the bogus ass southern accent he tried to portray he was born with being in the south. It wasn't only totally wack but his speech was almost a hypocritical in terms.
I can't believe the state of Louisiana thinks he's the savior but he started referencing the government during the time of Katrina in which case Obama wasn't even in office.
Dirty ass bastid. I wasn't impressed.
Speaking of Jedi Knights I did the same as you. I watched "Clerks 2," and "Panic" on the Chilean cinephile channel and finished reading the biography of A.C "Titanic" Thompson. I also read some of Griffin calculus-based blackjack book, but it is very rigorous and you can only digest 15 pages in a sitting. A useful 15 pages it was though, comparing the coefficients of correlation with the rolling E[ROI] for various side cards and shoe penetration. And -- yes -- you have to work through all the calculus on the page. I think I spent my evening more wisely than I would have had I listened to two oversold and underprepared officials delivering their party committee's words.
I agree with your thesis here on Elephants and Donkeys (still have Clerks 2 on my mind, I guess!). The GOP has a concept of the state as being guided by the importance of conquest abroad and social control, big government, and a social contract which seeks to the return of the feudal state.
The Democrats are an enormous coalition whose majority including Obama believes in nothing other than winning elections, something they do 50% of the time. They have not the will to pursue a social contract of peace, freedom and social justice in a modern capitalist self-governing nation nor do they have the will to get on the GOP bandwagon wholeheartedly and just start whipping people into line or letting them starve.
If the issue is the economy in general and the "Recovery Act" in particular, I don't want to hear from Obama other than his remarks on how he did his PARTICULAR job which was to use his bully pulpit to sell it to the voters and to his caucuses in each House. I'd like to hear from Pelosi, Hoyer, Frank, Boehner, Cantor, Paul in the House. I'd like to hear from Reid, Durbin, McConnell and Bond.
Obama and Jindal are doing more of their JOBS. Obama is selling. Jindal is obstructing. Neither is interested in the specifics.
It's the year of the Indian,
(Bobby and Bollywood style film at the Oscars) the GOP just wanted to jump on the band wagon.
I see Jindal as Palin part II. However, instead of using a woman, the GOP is using an ethnic minority as their puppet.
I didn't know you taught statistics... I have statistics next semester.. wish you were my professor ;)
I get your concerns but I'm not to thrown that we don't have specifics at this point, sometimes a little bit of knowledge gets people all loud and wrong. I say, let him get things off the ground and working. As for Jindal, I get the Republican's game in trying to make a formidable opponent for Obama but Jindal still needs some training.
I'm gonna stick around for awhile Raw Dawg. So if I come up missing on the blog its because I've went back to the Hillbilly mount to lay down and die.
I totally agreed, I would have liked to hear more specifics. Everything just sounded a little sugar coated and pacified. Just gotta keep supporting and hopeing!
The excessive Southern accent felt like an underhanded throwback to W. Not a good look.
You didn't miss much.
I totally concur. Jindal is the GOP's anti-thesis to Obama. They know they needed some color to go against Obama.
Plus him withholding money from the Stim. package for LA is just...stupid.
*lol @ that second picture*
When can we expect a post on Dutch politics, so I can join in on the conversation? hahaha.. just kidding ;)
Greetings from the netherlands!
Maybe I am off base in my thought patterns but, I think that until we see what happens when the funds are released and spent, we won't really know the pros and cons of the plan.
Everyone that has expertise seems to have a problem with the stimulus plan and the proposed budget. If the bill was perfect would everyone be satisfied? I think not.
Jindhal is supposed to be the GOP's Obama. At least this is the impression that he gave to me as he spoke. But he lost me when he started getting into the meat of his response. It was like eating a fast food burger when you're craving steak.
I also think that the whole background and using NOLA as the example for the nation was way off center. I turned him off because it was becoming a waste of my time.

well after i saw none in terms of implementation in the initial 680 pps, i was hoping he wouls clartifiy such - i dont know maybe its the scientist in me, we do it all the time. second, it does not deal with the primary issue of us being a cloesed economic system in a global econonmy. Third, unreliant on other oil producing nations is also a farce since we only get or import 56% of our oil, and less than 20 percent comes from middle east and most comes from canada - i could go on but jones here types w two fingers.

it is not really address where job creation occurs, and when u read it, i counted more than 8000 earmarks - u know the stuff obama said he would not tolerate lol
What up, T?
I have used the Jedi Mind trick reference recently a time or two. The President's rhetoric has to attempt to calm the fears of the impending gloom/doom of our financial realities, so I respect his Obi Wan Kenobiisms.
Jindal...ummmmm not so much. He Lost me at hello. HA!
Jindal got turned the hell off as soon as he opened his mouth.
I dont know all of what Obama plans to do but it has to be bettr than w/ wak bush did lol.
A lil off topic..but i find it interesting that Pres Clinton said in an interview last week that obama needs to let the ppl kno that tho things are bad..it'll get bettr..and then all of a sudden i hear obama changin his tune to a more positive tune. Mayb he heard what bill said.
I've got alot of reading to catch up on....
Shit is Ominous
Well maybe he's being intentionally vague to subvert any obstruction - since we know he's getting it. Or he and his advisors are just as clueless about how to fix things as the Rethugs are good at wrecking them! It's everybody for themselves. You made some good points about small business and the mortgages. When everything was so inflated how could anyone afford a house anyway esp in CA. Even rents have jumped 45%. Which is another big pet peeve of mine. Renters need help as well!
You know, all that's on my mind is what our Mayor is proposing to do with stimulus money coming to our area. Now don't hear me say that all of it is...well...I will leave that alone since I work "closely" in that area...we'll just see how it all pans out...
Cant commnet on the politics but can say hi
Hope you are well :)
Yeah...it was really pretty sad. Jindal sounded like he was telling a bedtime story. Oh well, back to the drawing board for the repubs in 2012.
This dude pretty much sabatoge his own plans for running for the white house.
His own party will do him in on this one.
Which is sad because the GOP has a little car full of clowns like him.
It astounds me how deep the GOP's ignorance goes.
It's like they got a Horn of Plenty when it comes to stupidity.
As for Obama's speech it was no different than any other state of the union address that tell the people what they already know.
What were people expecting, the secret to life?
