How u know if u an Obama Groupie

Ok, we just did a first as far as I can recall, count down the first 100 days of a standing president in office in the form of a formal press conference. The last time I saw count downs like this were for a space shuttle flight. Now Hats off to the President, from where I stand he has received a range of grades personally from an A+ to peace relations with the Muslim world and Health Care to a D- with respect to the economy and Pakistan.

With that said, I want to add how I am some what disturbed by the blind allegiance people give to anyone. In the African American community alone, we have a big problem with this and have labeled such folks as groupies, whether one follows Super head, Lil Wayne and yes, even President Obama. So with out further hesitation, my top reasons you know if you are an Obama Groupie.

  • You accept without question all that the President proposes.

  • You argue vehemently with anyone that disagrees with an approach or policy the President proffers even when one has not read the policy for themselves, and worse

  • His picture hangs on the wall next to Jesus Christ in the front room of your house.

  • You still have a campaign sign or bumper sticker on your car reading Obama Biden.

  • It is sacrilegious for any one to criticize a suggested approach offered by the President and that those who do in your eyes, will suffer eternal damnation in hell.

  • If someone’s disagrees with a particular policy, you are likely to question their blackness (just because i dont agree with giving banks that are gonna fail billions dont mean i am not as black as thou LOL).

  • You feel as if the policies he proposes are written by the president himself, even on Swine flu, health care and economics, when in fact experts other than the president write these positions.

  • You get mad and fuss at idiots like Sean Hanity, Rush Limbaugh and others when we already know that these lames don’t deserve our objective attention for they just plane ole hatters and sore losers (they wouldn't be down with him if he got the GOP a zillion new members).

  • You take the time to read the GQ, or Vanity Fair, or Essence magazines cover stories of the first family are in but wont read his budget plain of recovery act.

  • Last but not least you will not find this post funny,. wont laugh and get mad.

Now this is just a little fun to me, but on the real, as I say we must be critical of the office holder not the man, especially if we want him to succeed – it aint stop with your vote and remember that. Good Day

LMAO @ "His picture hangs on the wall next to Jesus Christ in the front room of your house." That's funny, some guy told me how his grandmother has a picture of Barack's whole family next to pictures of her own family and her husband spazzed out on her lol.

People are uneducated anyway. They'd much rather watch the latest music video or read about the next rapper in a magazine than to actually school themselves on what's going on with their government. Quite sad really. What upsets me most is that some people only voted for Obama because he's black. Sadness.

LOL, funny post, but its true...you're right, we have to stay informed on the policies of this administration and question them, not for the sake of doing so, but because we should all want this administration to succeed. If it doesn't we are thoroughly screwed...

LOL @ Anonymous...that is most definitely groupie behavior : )

This entire post is hilarious, and true for so many people. I have always found it funny when black people give blind allegiance to any politician. I remember about 3years ago, I made the mistake of criticizing President Clinton, and his policies toward Haiti and his inaction in Rwanda. From the way my law school classmates reacted, you would think I'd said something about their mamas. Of course, I then realized that they didn't know anything about Clinton's presidency, let alone his foreign policy.

I just pray that people begin to educate themselves on Prez Obama's policies, and stop just listening to what the talking heads on the networks are saying....

It's official..I AM NOT A GROUPIE. Never had yard signs or bumper stickers. I did pick up a few commemorative stuff, though, after election.

I AM MAD AT YOU FOR THIS POST!!! >-( LOL! Just kidding.

But I must admit, I haven't paid as much attention to politics as I did before the election. And usually when someone brings up politics or says something negative about Obama, my response is usually either to blow them off and disregard them, or say "The man just got in office. Give him a chance!"

Admittedly, that's irresponsible on my part. I don't really know all of the issues. But in my defense, I'm busy these days trying to start my own business (during a recession). That is currently more important to my everyday life needs. It's also a reason I visit blogs like this one: to get a small slice of what's going on outside of my own little world.

I wouldn't say I'm a groupie but I definitely refer to President Barack Obama as My President. I may not agree with every single thing he says but I'm not going to let anyone talk bad about him. Anytime, he's on the news or CNN, I'm right there watching because I want to know what he has to say.

I'm not going to lie I have the newspapers, magazines, even Obama playing cards and I'm not ashamed of it, lol.

Great work, buddy.

I don't care for the man because...well you know why...everything from his Reverse Robin Hood Bank Giveaways to his Imperialist Expansionism to his oppostion to Pot, Porn, Poker, Penises, Palestinian Statehood, Partido Revolucionario Democratico, and PERSONAL FREEDOM.

It's the Palestinian Statehood issue upon which I have an "ethnic" bona fide, I guess. I'm Jewish. I hate Zionism. I believe in Pan-Semitism. I believe in Palestinian Statehood and I wish Amitai Ayalon could be persuaded to reclaim the Israeli Labour Party for Peace.

Arabs are my cousins. They always will be.

I'm glad Obama beat McCain in thunderous fashion crashing through that barricade.

Everything after, I've opposed.

Dang! I am not an Obama groupie!

*sigh* Oh well!

I did put up a nice set of items from his campaign. Along with a written piece on my participation for future generations. There is going to be a time when my unborn generations will wonder what we did during this time in our lives.
I want them to know that I was in the mix.

But as far as just going along with everything POTUS Obama is doing-aw hell 2 the naw! He has made me cuss a couple of times already over decisions he has made.

That is a good sign in my opinion. Because it indicates that I'm accepting of him in the position. I have been cussing about every POTUS since I first voted in the seventies.

I also believe that we are the ones who have to hold him accountable. If we don't we'll pay the price for our lack of questioning.

Makes me wonder if you have it all figured out. I'm ready to learn, if so. But being a sycophant does not make oneself learned. As a matter of fact, it can force one to be enlightened to ONLY the O Man's rhetoric and ignorance to all else.

This is why Obama Groupies have very little credibility with me.

I love a good debate, but I cannot embrace ignorance in a debater. The two will not mix any better than oil and water.

@ RIPPA-UGLYBLACKJOHN: Thanks. I walk a lonely road on this with American Jews. It's a little different in South America because the Jewish and Arab communities are so close here and everyone enjoys that so much that nobody likes to discuss Middle East politics except in a joking way because the MATERIAL brotherhood is so pleasant.

There are a handful of us up there who feel this way about Israel and who are appalled by what was done from the bounce in our names. We have a tiny $20 MM lobby called "J-Street.org" and outside of university campuses and big cities you won't find too many of us. We are VOCAL, though!

Weirdly enough, HALF the ISRAELI population agrees with us, but your media won't tell you that. Surprised, I know.

It had relevance to Torrance's piece for a couple of reasons: (1) Despite his "words," Barack Obama is a Zionist, failed to criticize Israeli ethnic-cleansing in Gaza, receives lots of AIPAC money, and is less in favor of the 2-state solution than were George W. Bush, Bill Clinton or George H W Bush

(2) I view the issues through a worldview that's my own and never through an ethnic lens. I like that Diasporal Jews tend to favor civil rights and civil liberties as a culture but I abhor Zionism and elitist exploitation.

Great post, you are spitting truth. I know too many folks who just love Obama (don't get me wrong, I am happy he's the POTUS) but pay no attention to his policies and what's going on which is dangerous IMO.

Great post! There's definitely a huge difference between being an ardent supporter and being a groupie, and that pertains to persons not named Barack too. People blinded by love tend to go that route too....defend till the end, regardless...

Don't know if you ever hang out at Daily Kos, but there are a lot of non-black folk there who qualify as groupies. A lot of progressives want to believe he's One Of Us, but the more he dithers about naming a special prosecutor to investigate the Bushies, the more we worry.

We still have the bumper sticker on our car, but that's laziness, not unquestioning loyalty :)

KELSO'S NUTS said...

OK, there's no doubt anymore. Bush torture and GITMO policy is now OFFICIAL OBAMA POLICY. The military trials resume. There shall be no early releases. Enhannced interrogation once again permissible because of jurisdictional limbo bust BEST OF ALL GITMO is AN ACTIVE CONCENTRATION CAMP on again and will be taking on new Arabs for ethnic cleansing purposes.

I don't have time for Hannity or Fox or Republicans other than the libertarians whom I like (Paul, Flake, Rohrabacher, Campbell, Smith, Jones, Bilbray, Issa and Porter) and the liberal/moderates of good conscience like Collins, Snowe and occasionally Cochran.

But with his second overt act of war criminality, Barack Obama has lost me forever. I don't care how big the Senate Democratic Majority is. I don't care whom Obama chooses for the Supreme Court or any federal bench for that matter or any new US Attorneys, because why should I trust a war criminal with those responsbilities.

I will never visit the United States nor spend a thin dime there. I plan to live the rest of my life and die outside the United States.

Again, I ask was there a single word Obama said during the campaigns that was NOT A LIE?

I join in solidarity with my Arab cousins in GITMO in awaiting at the very least the beginning of the USA v Blagojevic trial. I cannot wait to hear the 1000s of hours of tapes and wiretaps collected by Fitzgerald and his chief informant, Obama campaign #4, US Rep Jesse Jackson, Jr, (D-RAT).

1000s of hours of in person and phone conversation with his closest advisors with no knowledge than he was being recorded.

If they can't find ONE FELONY to hang on Obama with all that tape, something's wrong.

This is going to cause him a lot of pain but given his indifference to the pain and suffering he's causing at GITMO, in IRAQ and in SOUTH ASIA, he should be able to handle it. He should not be impeached he should serve out his term and then be prosecuted in Federal Criminal Court for whatever the taps and tapes show he had done.

BuelahMan

I am not interested in a good debate with you. I don't have it all figure out. All I know is that this too will pass. I have been a public servant my entire life. I have been elected to public office....twice. I have served as police commissioner. I have served on national public policy boards. I have served time in federal prison.

I know more about public policy and politics than most. I AM OVER IT.

My pleasures lies in other arenas. Having a passing fancy for critical analysis is not enough to evoke change. We all can think and possibly discern a better world. But what are you and anyone else willing to do? Change that we can believe in starts with each of us working in community...where you are. We can be critical all day or we can go blinbdly over the horizon...whatever your poison or pleasure.

Do not concern yourself with my ignorance. Free your mind....

I care nothing about having credibility with you or anyone else...except myself.

@ BUELAHMAN: I think he should serve out his term in shame. If he's impeached and expelled the process will be halted there. It will be one more bit of POLITCAL THEATER. After Clinton was impeached, the concept lost all meaning. I have watched the Paula Jones deposition in front of Judge Webber maybe 70 times now and I am convinced that he committed no crime in his presentation in the deposition and was not at fault in the civil matter. I should have died there, the moment Bennett asked Jones's attorney for a list of the specific instances of harrassment she was alleging and he demurred preferring one non-specific blanket accusation of "harrassment." Judge Webber had partisan motivations for her unconstional ruling right there for the plaintiff. It was dead the second the man was not informed of the specific acts he was accused of. End of story. Nobody should ever have heard the name "Monica Lewinsky." It was over. That it went any further than Jones's demurral was something out of Kafka.

So, what's the big deal about impeachment now? If he's not impeached for a felony but instead faces the normal federal criminal process afterwards there's a chance justice would be done. As for Bush, Cheney and all the rest because they too served out their full terms.

Remembering that I still have a Bikers for Obama patch on my ride. Looking over to see the cover of N'Digo newspaper with Obama...and the fan, and the pic of him with a drawn-up Dr. King, and the postcard. And the tweet I just left about how he can go to Ghana over Kenya if he wants to and to leave him alone. Man, I might be a groupie. I stopped talking to a guy who voted for McCain just because he didn't like Obama's views on homosexuality and abortion. But wait...at least I read them. I didn't agree with his views on Reverend Wright all the way (thought he should've kept in contact), so maybe I'm not a groupie. But I snapped on somebody on YouTube for dogging him. *thinking* Yeah, I might be a groupie. I'm laughing though.

KELSO'S NUTS said...

@ CARLA: I don't think Obama should be impeached. Isn't that what I wrote?

I think he should keep on doing exactly what he's doing. It's flawless. It's a pitch perfect continuation of Bush's policies.

He's not burying me at all. He's making Latin America rich by borrowing to fund his beastly wars and corporate giveaways. Dollars are kleenex down here. Nobody's parting with sovereign currency!

But just for fun, let me show you what a real agent of change does when the people want change. Ecuador was on its knees under Obama-style corporatist government. They put the IMF handcuffs on and sold the potable water supply to Vivendi and gave a cheap off-shore drilling least to Royal Dutch/Shell.

The people said "that's enough...no more!" They elected Rafael Correa to make changes. Instead of flip-flopping on his rhetoric, Correa, sued the IMF and Vivendi at the World Court and got the peoples' water rights back. When the drilling lease ran out, he put it up for open auction instead of renewing Shell's IMF mandated sweetheart deal. When the Americans fussed about how badly he was treating the poor IMF, Correa closed every US military base and kicked them all out. When the Defense Deparment says jump, Obama says "how high?"

Correa's a peoples' president. What Obama does is a pathetic disgrace.

I know Americans like this sort of stuff so I can state categorically that Correa was more of a man at 6 years old than Obama will ever be.

La Libertine said...

@KELSO'S NUTS: Correa was awesome, wasn't he? When Obama did his flip-flop though, even if I wasn't surprised, I started seeing shades of Carlos Menem (former Prez of Argentina years back for those who don't know).
