Looking up to idiots

I would like to hope folk a blessed holiday season. But I must get back on the grind, for my reservation desires to promote self determination, and given the current worldly state of affairs, the window of opportunity is gradually closing. As we a wait the historic day where the new president of these United States assumes office, I still would like to reinforce that we should not look at jones as a savior, as 40 acres and a mule, of meaning emancipation, or that we have overcome.

We have not. The President Elect is but one man, in character and content that exist in all men. It is on us to assume the burden of responsibility for his success or our failures. We are the real folk that have to put in work. To assume the importance of liberty , in particular in the capacity of being versant and well informed. The decision is only ours whether or not to re-evaluate our current priorities and rearrange them such that the general community in the form of our neighborhoods, schools, and families are first. We must admit our faults and our general collective responsibility to correct what we can. Some of us men need to lift up our skirts and find our balls, and some of our sisters need to stop defining materialism and cosmetic falsities as being things of value. And most of all we, all need to stop looking up to folks that do not represent values we desire for a healthy community to reflect.

I hope that with Obama, folks will get a view of the possibility of family, the importance and the attractiveness in intelligence and reading and staying informed. I hope that people can observe how this one woman defines womanhood via being the supporter of her husband and children regardless. I Hope that people see in him, the value of reasoning and thinking as well as leadership. But the truth is, that down here on the grown level, we more than likely look up to idiots. I mean its cool to have a favorite musician or actor, but don’t allow them to be the source of information that you use to make your decisions. Nor be so absorbed in their life that you desire to be like them or live their kind of life. Don’t tolerate people who disseminate dumb ass, criminal and basically mal-adaptive behavior that you know is foul – but it makes u dance. We cannot complain. I feel if we don’t speak out and in action move to change that which we consider foul, then we are just as much of the obstacle.

All we do is follow, and we tend to follow idiots, or have more or as much interest in them than ourselves, All we do is follow. We rarely ever observe things, think about them and putt into action what we say. It is on both of us: the people and the president elect. I don’t want him to get up there and change the “our” you spoke about Mr. Obama, to the WE [Washington insiders]. Yep I still have a problem with you saying you gone change the “old boy “ network of “Washington Insiders – but I can let that pass for now. Because it remains on us and I am afraid and hopeful in the same instance. The window of time is small and we need to do something for a change rather than ask or expect for one person, to be our savior – he still is a politician.

AMEN!!!

I'm also anticipating what Obama has up his sleeve, but at the same time very weary of what can be accomplished in 4 years...much less 1. We all forget the President is just the figure head of our country...he really doesn't have all that much pull....

I totally agree with you. Most people are sooo blind that they think Obama will take office and work miracles immediately. Its not going to happen. I do think people should value how he takes care of "family". Todays people do look up to idiots.... you think Jeezy's songs will teach u how to stack your paper? Notttt, how about u check out Suze Orman or invest, read people let's get educated. Great post.

I don't think anyone can change the good ole boy network. Its owned by all the same people. I think most people know this on some level or another, which is why it makes so much sense that everyone keeps saying "He is only one man" and "He can't do it on his own" To me this is just the pre-emtive attempt to cushion his failure as a president. Don't get me wrong this presidency was doomed to failure no matter who won. But there are so many hopes riding on this one for obvious reasons. The truth is that the vast supporters will come up with ANY excuse as to why he will fail, but completely ignore that this presidency was already preordained to crash. Because then people would be forced to realize that their power to vote has alot less sway on what goes on in Washington, and that is really freaking creepy.

It's going to take a lot more than this man to make great change. But most people aren't going to see that. They are looking to lay their burdens on this dude's shoulder to carry. But maybe that is what you are saying.

I can't sit back and take the easy road. I still have a life to lead. Folk, parents, individuals need to step their game up... It's going to take a while for things to change from the Presidential level all down but as individuals we can have a direct hand on how change takes over our lives. Especially when we initiate it ourselves.

here, here I agree totally. he wants change, we gotta help him make sure he does and realize he is not the second coming.

I'm so with what you said. Over the
past 25 years or so Americans have been caught up in what Chairman Mao
once described as "The Cult of Personality" We tend to follow personalities more so than doctrine and ideologies. We have to learn How to think again, and not so much what to think. I'm glad
you stated this..It was needed.
Hope your holiday was a good one and here is a Happy New Year in advance.

Hey T!

You know, a long time ago, I had the opportunity to meet Lou Gossett Jr. Lawd knows he was fine! A group of us had dinner with him including my mother. All through dinner - all the women sat there looking at him with teenaged goo-goo eyes. At one point, he looked directly at me and smiled with a little twinkle in his eye. Almost peed on myself.

When I got home, told my Best Half how his wife and M-I-L would have really embarrassed him if he'd come with us instead of staying home with the kids. He then asked me the strangest question: "If you were single and had had the opportunity to hook up with LGJ, would you have?". I thought about it for a minute and said "No. Because I woulda learned that he farts and needs somebody to wash his draws".

I say all this to say that while I have great expectations of and for Obama, I also know that that he farts and needs his draws washed.

You're right Torrence, we got work to do. And it must be done ourselves. We must never forget the symbolic nature of Barack's successful candidacy. If anything, it should be the motivation of the masses.

I couldn't agree more. He's not here to save us. It's up to us to save ourselves.

I think that is the mistake that so many people are making...thinking that Obama is just gonna be some savior and that they need do nothing themselves. Nothing could be further from the truth. Ben Franklin said it and before him it was said in one of Aesop's Fables, "God helps those who help themselves." (Most people attribute this saying to being a direct quote from the Bible but this is not correct). We need to all stand up and hold ourselves accountable. Stop passing blame and pointing fingers. Let's all get busy!!!

You are so right, at the end of the day Obama is just a man and there is only so much he can do. True change will come when we all start to take steps towards it...
