Peg & petrodollar warfare

Growing up, as now I am and will forever be a music buff. Outside of Funkadelic, Prince, Led Zeppelin and the Almon Brothers, Steely Dan was one of my favorites. Now we aint talking about individuals, cause that would mean Al Green, Nina Simone, and Dinah Washington among a whole lot more folk would have to be included. But that’s not the point; the point is the song Peg. The lyrics I like the most are inn the chorus:

Peg
It will come back to you
Peg
It will come back to you
Then the shutter falls
You see it all in 3-d
Its your favorite foreign movie

Rumor has it that Iran is about to change what they and the world have traditionally peg the price of oil on (the US Dollar) to the Euro and the Yen. In all honestly, I hope they do it while GWB is in office because I would hate for it to fall in the lap of Obama (for obvious reasons) or in McCain’s (it may proffer a myocardial infarction). This makes it so clear to me as to why these political big wigs and Neo, neo cons are always at the fence throwing rocks at Iran. This will be more fucked up to the US than anything Saddam Hussein could have done. Not to mention he was on our payroll when he poisoned the Kurds and the Iranians.

If this happens it will be on, petro dollar warfare. Talk about divide and conquer, if this happens Europe will once again be king if it unit of currency becomes the standard for the rest of the world (yet another reason why I ridiculed McCain in the previous post regarding his restricted understanding of macroeconomics).

Any proactive government would have been able to see this coming and maybe even would have tried working hand-in-hand with OPEC and the European Union to put in place some type of dual currency system. But no, not our slow ass, pass the TV to change the channel to find the remote control ass. This may be why some have openly considered that ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’ occurred so we could put a pro-U.S. puppet government in Iraq, with military bases and all, right before “Peak Oil” production could occur. I guess to them, it was easier to procreate a war fabricated on a make believe WMD program so we could get some practice in before we did the same thing to Iran.

Damn, that’s some tight shit. I guess the lesson to be learned are several First, I cant be mad at a nation who selects a president with a PhD don’t sleep on PhDs, that’s what President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is, for he is smarter than ours. Also, our leaders again have failed us, and like me and the rest of US, until the dollar is back where it belongs, we gone be singing them lines to that Immortal Steely Dan Song. Especially the part about Iran, being our favorite foreign movie. Jesus Wept.

Hey,

Saddam Hussein threatened to go to the Euro and look what happened to Iraq.

Today, we are told that a second carrier just entered the arena so we can show Iran "we mean business", with Admirals coming out to explain how much firepower we have on the sea and air (downplaying our ground forces' quagmire in Iraq).

They have been steadily banging the drums and the next phase to control the oil (and the currency) is on soon. No stop in the "boogey man" painting of Iran and how "dangerous" they are (yet WE are the only sons a bitches that have invaded another country). Well, and our little sidekick, Israel.

They will attack in the air, using their "authorization" from Congress to attack "terrorist organizations" (Quds Force, etc) and will NOT seek any congressional approval.

If the shit gets too bad, they will nuke. Guaranteed.

We, essentially, have a Dictatorship running things and they are out to rape and pillage whatever they can (I suppose leading us to Armageddon).

Do not be surprised if something horrendous happens, there is Marshall Law and we have W as president after the end of Jan 2009.

While researching my first post, I re-read The Declaration Of Independence. It was amazing clear that we are in the same situation as our fore-fathers over 200 years ago. Swapping 'King of Great Britain' with GWB, and 'British' with our current adminstration, it is eerie.

How could a document so sacred to the foundation of our government be so easily forgotten?

You no doubt always leave us something to think about when we read your posts.

First off, also love Steely Dan, those lyrics are from one of my favorites.

Second, you're right (as inexplicably you usually are :-)), you'd think our government would have been proactive enough to not only see this coming, but to do something about this.

The effects for our dollar, let alone our gas prices could be disastrous.

I have to think about this. Sometimes your blogs are just to much for my "slow" mind.
I mean I get what your saying about the dollar become pretty much worthless to the world. . .
I'll be back.

Okay. Torrence, please forgive my ignorance, but I want to understand..

If the main problem is that America is defending its US dollars and trying to remain on top, isn't that good for Americans? Should they spit at Bush for keeping their standard of living where it is?

I'm not advocating anything here, just trying to see how an American -especially if they are stuck on their money and comforts- be bothered that US is protecting its dollars.

Maybe i'm missing something, but wouldn't that be a more honest and plain answer to have confronted Iraq and now Iran with some kind of incentive not to do this, some kind of extra special treatment? Rather than having a fake war and keeping the real reason secret? I doubt many Americans who are greedy would protest these actions, especially if they knew what was at stake.

See, this is what bugs me--if people had such discriminating tastes as they seem to do in *this* election, where, now, foreign policy experience has become such a must-have, maybe folks would have thought harder about/become more critical and vocal about Bush. We kill me about the things we say are important to us, but that we sit back and allow to happen. --As you mentioned about McCain and his understanding of the economy, it amazes me that NOBODY has ripped his ass for any of his deficiencies.

For a variety of reasons, including this one, I have absolutely no faith in our government, and no faith in our ability as citizens to step up to the plate and move heaven and earth to hold them accountable for anything. We can't break free from our tvs, take out dinners and whining about gas prices long enough.

Sorry for the rant (and the typos). ;-? This all just repeatedly baffles me and makes me angry.

I'd heard about this...problems with the Euro--rather, the potential for problems. You might want to check it out if you haven't already.

If you or anybody else ends up needing a password to read the article (NYT gets on my nerves with this), get one from bugmenot.

I love Nina Simone.

You familiar with the Baltimore album? It's so good, and so sad, and yet never makes the list when the critics talk about Nina's work.

I've been lucky. I've seen so many greats in music but I managed to miss seeing Nina Simone in concert.

Because it was based on the ability of folks to reason and think freely for them selves, which we cant do now, because the assumption of out government working correctly is that the electorate must be well read and informed

Thanks and ype, it is. But im trying to stay ahead of the game.

Miriam
You have a good point, it is good for Americans if we cvan increase productivity, manufacturing and the ability to save, but I don’t see that happening. It is more about protecting our ability to be a soverign nation and be better equipped to be a producer moreso than a consumer. But point well taken and I do understand your sentiment.

Tamra
Thanks for the insight, I will chk it out, yes it has some liquidity issues, and more states added to EU should help it out a lot and no need to be sorry, im king of typos and don’t loose faith, great point.

This is long, but it's the song I think of most right now:

"These are the days of the open hand
They will not be the last
Look around now
These are the days of the beggars and the choosers

This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance
And legitimate excuses

The rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much
But we'll take our chances
'Cause God's stopped keeping score
I guess somewhere along the way
He must have let us all out to play
Turned his back and all God's children
Crept out the back door

And it's hard to love, there's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say it's much, much too late
Well maybe we should all be praying for time

These are the days of the empty hand
Oh you hold on to what you can
And charity is a coat you wear twice a year

This is the year of the guilty man
Your television takes a stand
And you find that what was over there is over here

So you scream from behind your door
Say what's mine is mine and not yours
I may have too much but I'll take my chances
'Cause God's stopped keeping score
And you cling to the things they sold you
Did you cover your eyes when they told you
That he can't come back
'Cause he has no children to come back for

It's hard to love there's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope when there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say it's much too late
So maybe we should all be praying for time"

And maybe you can be my favorite professor I never had!

I think you've drastically misread our mission in iraq. Out of discretion, I won't say more on a public forum, suffice to say that I think this statement alone has told me that you might not understand what exactly is going on over there.

So chk Hlink to see whoes opinion I am citing folk. einstine, time is relative. dont be shy, tell me folk, im objective, just not a person to belive war is the best way to solve things.
