The Baroque period

Point of Order: 1] Wanna thank Dusty for reposting my essay: deposits and despots & my post next stop - martial law, also Shine girl for putting hher reading one of my books on her blog & Chicklit girl for the review she did on me.

2] PC charger dead so will chk my blog roll when i get another. Until then?

Now I know it is about two weeks left before the general election and that folk all geeked up about this. As well as all stoked on Obama. Now I’m trying to pay attention, but I cannot really because all of my attention is still focused on my loot and getting my small business off the ground.

To me, it is all just a form of trickery and deceit, or as they say in football, a misdirection. I cannot believe the hype, especially in projections and pools related to voting penchant or the electoral map when I don’t collect the data or can read about the statistical methodology. So for me such is neither here nor there, for it would not surprise if he (Obama) won or loss; for no matter whom wins - the next ten years, if no more, will be reflective of a dead economy regardless.

In Georgia for example, there is a jobless rate of 6.5%, which lets me know that for every five folks looking for full-time employment, there is only one available job. Not to mention what we have seen over the past few weeks regarding the vertiginous ups and downs of the US Stock market and the ad hoc manner in which the Feds pick and select who to and who not to help, its no wonder the financial sector has been devastated. I still say Paulson is a fuc boy. He rejected the suggestion of Martin Feldstein for the Feds to offer low-interest loans to replace 20% of mortgages for any US home-owners.

Used to be Baroque referred to music, and ironically music created during the period in which the French Revolution was in (some aspects). The music of the Baroque period was extremely complicated and the word was taken from the architecture of the period and means highly decorated. It was composed between the time of 1600 to 1750 and included greats like Frescobaldi, Corelli, Vivaldi, Bach and Handel. Nowadays, we again have entered the Baroque period (Ba-roke), cause mutha fucas is broke mane. Who would have ever thought that Chrysler and General Motors would ever link up? Or that IHOP would be selling all the pancakes you can eat for $4.99. Or that The restaurant group that Owns Bennigans and Steak and Ale would file chapter 7 and closes all of its doors; or that Ruby Tuesday would report a 97% decline in first quarter income and as a result reduces its prices for dranks and burgers by $1.00?

Folks so broke that we seeing foreigners salivating at the mouth to eat us up. Spain’s BancoSantander is bout to, if they already aint, take full control of Pennsylvania based Sovereign Bankcorp. Aint no more profit to earnings ratios anywhere, not to mention I always wondered how one could post profits without any earnings. And ii won’t even go in to all the job lay-offs. So yea jones, America is Ba-roke (broke). Welcome to the reinvented Baroque period.
Addendum: RIP Rudy Ray Moore aka Dolemite

Yeah, it's rough out here. Food shopping is depressing. It's so sad how everything but your income is going up.

Good post, bro. And all true. By the way, I grew up in Georgia; and, if unemployment is 6.5% overall, it's at least 13%, not including folks who have given up trying to get a job and no longer looking. Blessings.

That has got to be the best use of the word Baroque I have ever read. Hysterical, only a big brain could come up with that!

Yeah, it is imperative to have a plan and to educate your children during this time period.

I'm not so foolish as to believe that any president can solve this problem anytime soon.

Welcome America to the time of the haves and have nots.

Baroque Period! Im still laughing.

Funny enough, if you've got money like Warren Buffet has money, now might be the perfect time to invest. I've always felt the best time to sell stock is when Republicans have been firmly placed in office. The best time to buy is right before Democrats get voted in.

Although all of these companies are dropping like flies, it actually opens the field up a lot for other opportunities. This is why I think now's the time for investment. Prices are low, people need jobs, and government is about to start some New Deal style projects. Yeah, the next 6 months is a good time to make big moves.

What you think?

Another stellar article Torrance. You hit all your points square on the head.

Didn't know about Bennigans. Add to that list retailers Mervyns and Linens N Things, they are both liquidating as we type.

Seems BushCo only wants to help those that helped themselves...to crooked, underhanded profits. Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone with the crap he has pulled the last eight years on our entire country.

oh, and thanks for the link to Sirens Chronicles too. ;)

We love you over there...you speak truth to power brotha and for that I salute you!

Inventing such a word-play as using 'baroque' to refer to the current state of bankrupcy puts you up there with the classic british writers such as carroll and dickens ;)

Greetings from the netherlands.. which, I do believe, have been taking over some baroque american banks already :P

LOL at Baroque Ba-roke!Too funny. I can't find a Bennigan's in my hood that's still open, and I was diggin' those Monte Cristo's!

you know i am definitely feeling everything that you are saying...not to mention the fact that although gas prcies are declining all other prices (cost of food) are static and won't decline..

and the point about the fac that it'll be about 10 yeras before we see a turn, i really hope people understand that NO MATTER WHO gets into office there is NO QUICK FIX for this its going to take years, before we can come from under all this mess...it took 8 + years to get us here, we gotta know its going to take longer to get us out...

Things will get worst before they get better in my opinion.

From beginning to end we are living a total lie but you know that!
The Bradley effect is only one of the many big concerns this election. The right is going to steal this somehow. That is increasingly obvious why the voting system is the way it is.
The complicit MSM keeps calling it close so it can be stolen once again. The question is how this time?
To me our only chance is to make sure people come out en masse and give Obama a landslide. Bush has until January 20th to do his worst and you know what I expect so I'll shut up! Take care!

Price of fuel here is going down at the rate of four cents a day, but everything else is going up. Utilities 23% rise in November. Where is anyone including seniors going to get all this money? We don't all have seven houses and I feel for you Raw Dawg and your business!

Not all is lost though...this colder weather got the blue gill and crappie biting something proper. Might be a good idea to invest in some minnows and a good rod and reel.

We'll persevere, we ain't new to this we used to this!

JONES: I listed the sharpest European banks three weeks ago when the mark-to-market issue came up and you will see in 0s and 1s on the telegraph wire that I included Banco De Santander and Banco De Bilbao. Or as we say: "Putos no faltan, lo que faltan son financistas" [Direct: There's no lack of fools; there's a lack of players...American: Money talks, bullshit walks.]

6.5% unemployment in one of the best business cities in the world, huh? Well, that gives you a clue about what's coming.

A confluence of very bad things. Baroque and baroquer. That is if you consider food riots baroque.

I do.

Macdaddy's on the money about the official unemployment figures totally understating by at least half the true figure.

So, why is this bad? Why not do the normal Keysnian thing and increase social spending and infrastructure repair plus the monetarist thing of passing at the next meeting and going up 25 bps at the next?

Well, Obama can limit fiscal looseness to social stuff. Without 60 in the Senate he can't even do his middle-class and working-class tax cut. Why? Well, you've all heard why from the cretins like Michelle Bachmann and read it on all the Wingnut sites: "BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IS A SOCIALIST."

So, "stimulus" will come in the form of a huge increase in the war allocation plus massive tax cuts for the rich and tiny tax cuts for everybody else, PLUS ANY GODDAMN THING PAULSON HAS GOTTEN EVEN TACIT APPROVAL FOR TO DATE."

Where's inflation now? Low, right because of recession. How long can that last with the f/x and commodities markets so pregnant?

And with the tits-up in anything the Treasury does on behalf of the banks? The LEAST baroque scenario medium-term is STAGFLATION.

KELSO'S NUTS said...

JONES: It happened. I didn't think it was possible after he testified on Ted Stevens' behalf with Stevens' in such a close race with Bergich for the seat. But that's your Colin Powell. Two-faced until the end.

I'm done with Obama other than hoping that he wins because the other guy's just too vile for words.

My preference is for Cynthia McKinney. Maybe she'll get cross some threshold to win the Green Party something.

I'll cash a nice bet on Obama for president though. And I still think the world of Michelle Obama.

But LIBERTARIAN OR GREEN.

This is an insult. I'm done.

T,

I am not an econ person. But I do know from having listen to my elders talk about the depression years, that we are going to see it get so rough and so tough out here before it gets better~that is if the situation improves.

Believe me I am watching what happens because I am my economic producer. And my loot is looking on the thin side with the way prices are at the moment.

Being a shopaholic, I have had to go cooooold turkey. Which is okay..kind of sorta. But until it become more clear to me about what is going on, I'm more inclined to save that spend.

I have not decided on what to think about Paulson either. I have my suspicions about that man.

Love your 'Baroque' reference.

I didn't see Chrysler and General Motors merging, but better that than the US government bailing them out any more than they already have.

I'm against government bailouts. I knew the original $700 million would only be the beginning. I was right.

you know - I don't think america is really all that broke...I think this has been all planned out. Just cuz we don't hear about the ish doesn't mean it doesn't stink.

jmsjoin said...

Darius!
Glad to see this! Yes it has all been planned. It is part of the bankrupting of America and the manufactured perfect storm that is coming to a head perfectly right now and it is no coincidence. Keep watching!

President Anthony Taurus said...

America IS broke. However, if we include that top 5% and average it out, this nation is swimming in money.

This is part of what I write about the economic black hole created by Republican policies that funnel money to the top while ignorantly expecting it to "trickle down". It's dumbest damn thing I've ever seen to pass. It's part of the reason why I think most of this nation is stupid.

We on some ghosts of Christmas eve shit where Ebenezer Scrooge, the ultra rich and greedy, counts his money and Tiny Tim, the American people, have a messed up leg and no healthcare. In my opinion, Obama represents that future where a family is in their home, next to a warm fire, enjoying Christmas and presents. McCain is the future where the family sits in a cold house sitting around a table with no food mourning Tiny Tim b/c he's dead.

(I think I am going to go blog that analogy)

You are too funny, I didn't know where you were going with this, great play on words Baroque - Broke. I was like why is he brining up the Baroque period and politics, but as read I learn...

Rich Fitzgerald said...

Baroque - that's funny.

I have to agree with Darrius on this one. They knew this was coming, just like when the World Trade Center was dynamited for that perfect fall down, this is a set up.

I also suspect that they want Barack in office, why else would McCain throw the freaking election by taking Palin as a mate. They had to know that wsa going to blow up in their faces.

RunGirl. said...

lol @ Linda

Yeah times are fough, but they will turn around. The next person to take office will dictate how fast/slow that turn around is ...

Speaking of the Barouqe Era, I wish we would return to that era. Music today is awful adn getting worse by the day. I heard a song on the radio - it was the #1 song on this countdown - that was a Ja Rule sample. Are you kidding me? Who f'ins samples Ja Rule's voice??

Actually the Sovereign purchase was in the works way before this last purchase. Originally the strike price was like $40 a share, so they happen to be able to pick a bank up for little to nothing (3.81 a share) that they were already planning to by. S0 not SO MUCH doom and gloom, but these are the B-ROKE time. Really we are. I really am more excited about the communities’ excitement around voting, but I am afraid if the desired outcome does not happen it would gravely affect how we as a community vote in later elections and that is scary. I do believe if Barack brings it home it will start an era of new enlightenment as far as people being more aware of the things that matter, not as aware as they should be but MORE aware.
