the great unifier

I have been told that ignorance is bliss. I frankly disagree with this, but I have finally come across a case in which such may be factual and the case. We have suffered a rather harsh and disturbing 8 years under the current commander in chief. We have seen high fuel prices, a dwindling economy, namely proffered by a reduced manufacturing base, lowering wages, and decline in the housing market and reduced purchasing power of the dollar. There are more I could add, including a costly war that was implemented for over zealous personal gain and/or fame and lowering academic performance across the board from primary school to college.

Yes, GWB has put his foot in it, basically unknowingly and via the suggestions of advisors that seem to have never had the best interest of folk like us in their hearts. I really feel sorry for the next president. I know it will be better in some form or fashion, but the road traversed will be arduous and difficult. Bumpy even with a many of moguls to avoid.

Yep, GWB, his legacy will be an assorted one. But for me, I will always recognize for his inept outcome regarding the current state of political affairs. For me even with the war and stagflation, I will always remember him as the great unifier. Yep, for this one man in his eight years has managed to do what others, even Martin King Jr. could not do. He has managed to bring together, whites and blacks, men and women, gay and heterosexuals, natural born citizens and immigrants, republicans and democrats. For we all know he must go. He has done all of this believe it or not unwittingly. So George W. Bush, I toast to you, leaving office and unifying America, for with you, your folk and your policies, we would not have been on the verge of this new possibility, of a man of African descent, taking residency in the white House.

Caanan. Good look folk, welcome to the roll scholar.

That pretty much sums up my feelings as well. We've waited 8 long years to bid him farewell. It can't come soon enough. Our next president has a LOT of work to do.

01.20.09 - the countdown began a long time ago for the day the inauguration of the next president of this country.

You said, "GWB has put his foot in it, basically unknowingly and via the suggestions of advisors that seem to have never had the best interest of folk like us in their hearts."

I don't think that some of the stuff he has done has been done unknowingly, though. I think that in many cases, he has intentionally screwed the people he does not give a shit about. Even more so because he has advisors who can help him come up with techniques/strategies/programs to ensure that we are all screwed in some major way.

I agree it does not appear that it is unknowingly. Katrina was not unknowingly, mass weapons of destruction front not unknowingly, the contracts given in Iraq to a company that the vice president used to run. Haliburden( spelling unsure) not unknowingly. Your blog is my favorite. Thanks for surfing my site my lame site about the musing about hair.

yes the possibility of a new president being of african decent would make us smile, but do realize that he is half white, not that its a negative fact, that doesnt really matter, BUT what does matter is that the great Obama, is the third cousin of Dick Cheney, ....Obama's existence, stature, and position in the u.s isnt out of pure luck or degree, but of a certain pedigree...interbred to make us as african americans feel as though there is 'hope' when all the slave master is really doing is blinding us to feel a bit of joy while thier dirty work is done by one of us. no way and no how am i against people of the caucus mountains, but us as afrikans, must use our third eye and see what is blinding us.

btw - Ignorance is most definately bliss! Do you know how much I would give to just erase some stuff from my mind? We get too much details of everything nowadays.. I don't want to know in detail who killed who and how.... really, if anything, I wish there was a way to just erase those bad thoughts..

It makes people cynical.. or even depressed.. I can see it very well in me and my husband. He's been brought up pretty much sheltered from everything and he's got this lovely childlike naïvity which I probably lost before I even became a teen....

Sure it gets him in trouble sometimes, but just imagine how carefree you'll live if you don't know the ins and outs on something like genocide in Rwanda.. you know what I mean? ;)

Anyway.. don't want to ruin your day bringing all that up.. greetings from the netherlands!

That's a interesting way to look at it. Kind of like without cow shit in fertilizer food cannot grow from the earth. I'm with Obama because sometimes change is great but GWB left the country like a person who house got foreclosed on, full of holes in the wall, urine in the toilet, and all the marble off the counters. Obama has his work cut out for him.

G Dub is leaving office with his own privatized army, read mercenaries for hire whose pockets he's fatten during the course of his term.

Now he can be just like his Daddy his left office with the Secret Police.

Although he will no longer be at the helm, I don't expect him to go quietly into that good night either. Too much money at his disposal from this faux war we've been fighting...too much time playing war games. That testosterone doesn't just evacuate your system over night.

Now if we could only get everyone and I mean EVERYONE including people like my Grandfather who almost put me out of the house for talking bad about G Dub to agree, we'd have a lesser chance of electing another fool into office.

Torrance, you are too kind, really. I defy anyone to watch this very brief video of GWB being caught in a lie and then say he's oblivious.

In fact, I'll betcha he's planning right this moment on fine-tuning the invasion of Iran. If Tehran has a building left standing after he nukes them, he can then declare martial law and postpone the election indefinitely. I put nothing past Bush & Co.

Well, that's my two cents.

i never thought of it that way, but he did unite, didn't he?

two of the "dumbest" things said to me within the last six months when debating bush's inadequacies with some hard-core republicans in my office were:

"we must trust our president." - when discussing the war on iran. at that point, all talks ceased on my end. finito. anybody who thinks like this is not even worth arguing with...

and

"he is actually quite smart. that dumb act is just that, an act. but behind closed doors, he is actually brilliant." to which, my response was, then explain the war and the economy. (and this statement was coming from an educated poli-sci major)....hey, maybe it's me and the rest of the world that doesn't get it.

i raise my glass to chimpy mcflight and don't let the door hit you on the way out!

I couldn't agree more, he has certainly done at least one thing he set out to do, unify this country. 75% of us all agree this man is not a good leader, and we can't wait for change. The country hate him so much that they might elect a black president, that says a lot.

ironically you are right. in a wierd way we have all banned together to get rid of THAT guy. man whoever wins precidency I hope we can start making some changes for real..

Sista GP said...

From a different perspective, let's say that he got on the U.S. Economy train heading up a mountain. All is fine. Everything is moving nice and easy. Along several stops, he makes “some” decisions that do not benefit the country and needed a place to put the decision waste, so he hides the BS in the cargo holds of the train. So as the train continues to be weighted down, it slows, but is still moving.

It would take a lot of courage to admit failure and deal with the repercussions. Just the fallout from his financial supporters and Party would need a strong person to handle it.

To admit the failure would be the demise of his career and possible impeachment charges, even though he may go down in history as the first politician to actually admit to a mistake.

So lacking courage and strength, he continues to ride the economic train that is continually gathering more BS and moving slower. As the train reaches the top of the mountain (re-election), he is relieved that it made it. But since he never informed the conductor or anyone who works hard to maintain the train that he loaded so much BS, they were unaware of the overload.

So as the train tops the mountain and starts to travel downwards, it begins to gather speed. The conductor tries to slow down, but the brakes fail. So now U.S. Economy is a runaway train. At some point, he could have jumped off, but fear kept him aboard. The train is traveling too fast to be stopped. His only hope is that the tracks levels off somewhere up ahead and there are no other trains in the way. With a steady stop, he could off load the entire load of BS without the passengers’ knowledge. As the world watches the newscasts of the runaway, it fears a derailment for it would leave the economy crushed, burned, and the flames would pollute the world.

He should have applied his No Child Left Behind document to his own presidency! He would have flunked out a long time ago and saved us frustration and billions of dollars. I could never think bad about U. I'm headed up to Texas in a couple of months I may have to hit Hotlanta!

I hope you two are right. You are both unsual fellows, though. Probably because you're both given to optimism.

From where I sit, I see that Bush has "unified" MAYBE 54% instead of 50% of the USA, though he's created billions of Obama supporters around the world!

I wrote a post on my site tonight about the "greatness" of George W. Bush which would tend to contradict your optimistic point of view. Obama will probably beat McCain, but if you look back at the past 8 years Bush has had a stranglehold on the the three branches of government no head-of-state of any capitalist-democratic-republic has had since the Battle Of Hastings.

How many times has he lost? Twice. Privatization of Social Security and Terry Schiavo. That's it. He's got a 99% record. Who has that? Not Reagan. Not Thatcher. Not Blair. Not FDR. Not Meir. Not even the Pope or the Premiers of the USSR.
