Itsy bitsy baby steps

Point of order: SouthPeezy (Vibe and XXL writer & my folk) and ATilein stopped by the shop and had some vino with me on Friday.

Speculative processes enables one to do many things, in particular prepare and attempt to gather understanding. In my last post, I asked a question that I have been thinking about for sometime now: What happens if or when Obama looses in the general election in November. I have not really read or heard anyone discuss this or even broach this subject at all, let alone with any modicum of plausible discourse.

Seems that what is anticipated is a change. Maybe it is the intense and repetitive banter suggesting a need for change, which is true. Or maybe it is the extreme prejudice associated with the possibility of having a man of African descent take up residency on Pennsylvania Avenue. I cannot quit say but I do know that many see it as a truism albeit such has yet to take place.

Don’t get me wrong, I do hope that jones wins the general election in November. However I am prepared just in case he doesn’t. I cannot say the same for a large corpus of folk who take his victory as some did the Patriots over the Giants this past Super Bowl.

It may be by chance, or more so history, that he may not win. I mean historically, we have never as a people gotten this far. Even to the DNC in which a man or woman of color has been awarded the nomination for the presidency. I was taught that America granted (yes granted for freedom has only been asked for by folk like me and now taken aggressively) rights to folk like me via history and his-story in itsy bitsy baby steps. This is a big jump and complete change in discourse if jones just moves ahead of the class and claims the role of commander in chief. We see how the GOP get’s down and McCain is a dirt slinging, scorch and burn, old school, chemo-drug filled mutha fucking raw dawg politician.

I just really wonder how many have given true thought or discernment towards the possibility that he may loose in November to John McCain, and if he does, what happens to this country we all cherish so dearly, even with its faults. What will happen to the democratic party and this republic for which it stands if Obama ends up on CNN or what ever news outlet you watch and concedes to John McCain? Are you ready for that? Can you handle that? And what will happen in these streets and what will you do if he doesn’t win? Cause it is real in the field. vote

I have always believed that something was going to happen at the last minute to prevent Obama from winning the election. I'm prepared for that result. Either way, it isn't going to stop the bills from being due or my plans for the future.

If he doesn't win I'll continue on doing what I'm doing, just as I would've if he had won. Only with a broken heart.

With Joe Biden as his running mate, I think he's upped his chances even more. Other than Biden's drug policies, he's a pretty good candidate and he'll go for the jugular during the VP debate. I can't wait.

I think that most people are so wrapped up in the fact that he's gotten this far, that they haven't taken the time to worry about what would happen if he did lose.

Hopefully, people will make it to the polls so that he will win.

Go Obama!

who knows what'll happen with america. i've certainly heard plenty predictions and non sound like anything i wanna be a part of.

(if you have any, i'd like to hear/read your thoughts or ideas about cynthia mckinney and rosa clemente. just whatever. their campaign. them not having a chance at winning. their stance on the issues. whatever you got. or point me in the direction if you've done this already.)

The fact of the matter is...

some are not ready to face what will happen if he loses, because they don't understand what actually can happen if he wins...

either way, there are going to be alot of angry black folks, when the dust settles and the smoke clears.

Let's just hope that the dems keep control of the House and Senate.

I do like the Joe Biden pick...he had to go with someone that had the experience and the political know how that he lacks...especially in regards to aiding with foreign policy...umm...but look what Cheney did for the Bush administration...so not really getting to giddy about this one either...

I want the Obama/Biden ticket to win...then appoint my girl Hillz Secretary of State...then I'm good.

If he does not win...we will need to come together to promote change on a local level...if Obama does win...we need to come together to promote change on the local level...it starts within the community.

OMG honestly, if Obama doesn't win... some people will digress and go on with their lives, but others may cause a riot or something, who knows? I'm NOT prepared for that, especially when I live in DC OMG.

How can one plan for failure and success at the same time? I was always taught that it was best to focus on one thing at a time, so for now I will focus on a win.

If the time comes that I need to focus on loss than I will do so at the appropriate time, but it would seem fruitles to be planning for a loss if that's not the desired outcome!

Wonderful question for folks, and true, black progress has come in baby steps.

If Obama or McCain is elected, I think we can expect the draft and the economy continuing in it's downward spiral which will leave us in a Great Depression.

If McCain is elected, this is the worse case scenario:

~ a nuclear attack on Iran, if Bush doesn't beat him to it,

~ the US attempting to over-throw Venezuela for oil and Cuba for payback,

~ more military involvement and bases set up in Africa, which is already in motion,

~ and war-by-proxy with Russia but fought in Georgia and maybe Poland & the Ukraine,

~ our soldiers on the ground in Pakistan, which is unraveling,

~ increased support to Halliburton and other mercenaries - some who aren't even American - who will be hired to patrol urban areas here in the US. We got a glimpse of this during Hurricane Katrina. They are also are above the law,

~ an increase of martial law in urban areas with blacks and Latinos disappearing into Guantanamo-style prisons here in the US, which already exist. These are well-guarded but there are no prisoners in them yet. They got big plans for us, and will use them with the slightest provocation or excuse,

~ a continuation of a White House above the law, cementing the trend of this country becoming a dictatorship,

~ and a push toward us having a new name called the North American Union - an idea that Bush & Cheney and the neocons supports once their other goals fall into place.

Although I write about love relationships and social issues, I've also written about these things too in previous in-depth political articles. Come visit.

He currently has a 25 point advantage in the 18-30 vote. If he loses, I think and hope that the youth and other factions (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) will rise anyway. They will demand change and bring about mass disorder.

To your point, i suspect that somewhere between "kit", your own foresight - And a slightly 'kinder' version of same will likely be endured. To some other points, if I may;

I wince to my gut with each iteration, 'my ni**a'. Young men, boys, referring to each other; initially, race specific, now any 'may' refer to friends, acquaintances, strangers as though they have some intimate knowledge that the rest of us have no concept of.
I think I understand my own revulsion,,, this is not 'merely' a remnant of white on black violence, the memory of the stories, the shared guilt, but more, the feeling as though we have taken for granted, the acceptance of mans' inhumanity to man,,, that somehow this is acceptable, even intrinsic to humanity.
Grandpa's little girl is about to enter 1st grade. For a year we all heard about her best friend in school. On the last day of class, moving up exercises ;) we met her new best friend,,, a precious little sweetheart, demure and uber intelligent (much as is grandpa's little girl;) and, oh btw, as black as the blackboard itself,,, throughout the year, my littlest girl never felt this was important or significant enough to mention... it simply had no bearing.
I wince with each thought of the day that they discover something about our most primitive history and how each they must adapt for todays' realities~

My brother in Colorado and I were on the phone the week before our B-lo Bills played the NY Giants in their first Superbowl loss of four in a row to come and he did what you did, verbalized the unthinkable. Imagine if Buffalo loses he said and we were both quiet for that nanosecond of dread and doubt. Naaaaah, we conluded, no waaaaaay. So if O tanks, I can't bring myself to say if McCain wins, I am thinking New Zealand has a great climate, speasks English and my kids cdna learn the Maori Hakka in gym class instead of some 3 year old hip hop number nobody does any more. Scary stuff yo. Being from B-lo gives me and edge though. A quick aside. Joe Biden? Joe Biden is good if you're looking for a hatchetman, because he is definitely an attack dog who leaves bite marks. But if he has so much experience then why are we where we are now?

But to your post, if Obama loses then maybe nothing will happen. I don't think there will be riots in the streets like some 3rd world countries. The 60's have long gone and Rodney King is just a footnote. If nothing happened when "W" first became President after Florida, nothing will happen now unless something flagrantly untoward is responsible for Obama losing.

Or maybe it will prove the old axiom "Only Nixon can go to China." Maybe only a black Republican can become President.

Demetrius said...

I believe Barrack Obama has that potential to facilitate change, but will he have the courage that it takes to shake loose from the evil dictators who really call the shots in this country. John McCain is already declaring his stay to course ambitions so if he's elected expect nothing to change.

John F. Kennedy had the love and respect of the people and that is what motivated him to turn against the demands of his wicked handlers--unfortunately that may have been the reasoning behind his death. For change to occur in this country the same kind of bravery and honor is going have to manifest from the heart of the next president of the United States.

Great post T.,

There is, of course, a real possibility that Obama may lose. But I heard black folks always say, "Just because you don't have a chance to win is no reason not to try." That was the attitude that made the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s so successful.

If Obama loses, progress will be slowed. But we need not go backwards. True the economy may suffer, and we'll be in for further years of war.

Now there is a real chance that Obama might win. We must seize the moment: we must rally for what's right. For, as we know, progress is not the goal; equality is. If you look around, you will see, not everyone for Obama is black. But racism, sadly, is alive and well in the US.

The bottom line is if John McCain is elected president, things won't be any worse than they are now.

THE WRONG KIND OF "CHANGE" FOR ME

"FROM WASHINGTON STATE

What I saw was at least 3 trained group agitators -- Since my MA is in group dynamics and group facilitation I recognized when someone is using techniques that I have been trained in. If such individuals were planted in ALL precincts, along with bringing in ringers -- then ALL caucus results are bogus. For this sort of intensive origination to take place in a rural area -- this means that a vast amount of money was spent to manipulate the results of the caucus. The Obama supporters kept changing the number of delegates -- subtracting Clinton delegates and increasing Obama delegates, each time they claimed someone had changed and they had to do "complicated" math and that's why Clinton kept losing delegates. There were NO Clinton supporters checking the Obama "math"."

Read the rest to see the kind of "Change" Obama would bring to the table.

It's not good.

If Obama were to support ideas that would improve the US economy, he'd win big.

But, his plans -- if enacted -- would lead to higher gas and oil prices, higher taxes and lower employment.

He does not seem to understand that capital -- money -- goes where it's well treated. Since we live in a "global economy" investors can choose any country on the globe in which to invest. By invest, I mean building factories and other sites for economic activity. Investors can put their assets wherever they like, and if tax rates and labor rates are too high in the US, investors will take their money to more hospitable nations, like China and India.

Obama is popular outside the US because many people in other countries see the benefits flowing in their direction if Obama is elected.
