Civil Rights Protest Now Super-Illegal Under Obama Administration-And No One Noticed

As a child growing up in the 1960s in Memphis, my mother and her brothers and sisters and her friends were frequently involved in protest affiliated with the civil rights movement. Whether if it involved getting arrested at the public libraries (which they did), or in front of city hall, it was never against the law to assemble. Them there days are over.

Without any mainstream media coverage, HR 347 was passed by a margin of 388 to 3and signed into law by President Barack Obama. This law makes it against the law to protest anywhere where the secret service is present. In addition, it specifically cites major public events, such as Inaugurations and Presidential campaigns. Yes even the Whitehouse or more specifically anywhere the President of the United States is present. What we saw in the 60s with civil rights or in the 70s with Roe V. Wade or the Vietnam War, where civil assembly as a form of free speech, can no longer occur if a President and his collective corpus of Secret Service are gathered.

Strange thing is it didn’t just happen yesterday, but last March 2012. Called the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act, it has been described by some as making the First Amendment illegal or criminalizing the Occupy protests.

Even if the President or Vice President is not present, this law has some lasting draconian effects. For example, where ever world leaders are in the US visiting from abroad, they are normally assigned secret service agents for their protection. This now means that at meetings of the the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Secret Service can be used to suppress protests in or around certain restricted zones near individuals under its protection. This is consistent with anything that is defined to be a “National" by the Department of Homeland Security.

The types of conduct covered by the law amended by H.R. 347 includes: entering or remaining in one of these zones without "lawful authority"; Engage in "disorderly or disruptive conduct" in or near one of these zones that "impedes or disrupts the orderly conduct of Government activities or official functions “and blocking or otherwise impede an entrance or exit to one of these zones (but you must again intend to disrupt government activities or official functions); or (4) Engage in any act of physical violence against person or property in any restricted zone.

In theory, HR347 is a re-write of a trespass law, originally passed in 1971 and amended a couple of times since. However, it still remains that the bill makes it easier for the Secret Service to overuse or misuse the statute to arrest lawful protesters. In the past, the government had to prove a certain state of mind for arrest and prosecution for most crimes.” Under the original language of the law, you had to act "willfully and knowingly" when committing the crime. In short, you had to know your conduct was illegal. Under H.R. 347, you will simply need to act "knowingly," which here would mean that you know you're in a restricted area, but not necessarily that you're committing a crime.”

In the Bill of Rights, there is a statement that reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” As a constitutional scholar, I wonder if the President is aware of this.

Note to self: All Politicians Are Crooks Regardless of Color

Since Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, African Americans without question have voted hook, line and sinker for the Democratic Party. As a consequence of this blind allegiance, we often fail to see the similarities of Democrats and Republicans — namely that regardless of race and gender, they all — for lack of a better term — are crooks and place themselves and their interests above that of the commonwealth. Take the example of Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas.

The longtime congresswoman from Dallas is a member of the renowned Congressional Black Caucus. At 74, she is expected to easily win a 10th term in November over Republican Stephen Broden. Recently, Amy Goldson, counsel for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, said that Johnson violated organization rules when she awarded scholarships to her relatives and those of an aide, Rod Givens. Givens served as the district director for the people of the 30th Congressional District.

According to the Dallas Morning News, over the last five years, Johnson awarded up to $20,000 and a total of 15 scholarships to two grandsons, two great-nephews, and aide Rod Givens' children between 2005 and 2008. Each year, each member of the Black Caucus is given $10,000 to award scholarships. In 2009, Johnson selected 12 students to divide $10,000 from two scholarship programs; according to foundation records released Monday. Eight students got one scholarship. The four other students — the congresswoman's grandsons, Kirk and David Johnson, and her staffer's son and daughter, Julian and Mariyah Givens — got two apiece.

These scholarships were awarded in violation of Congressional Black Caucus Foundation eligibility rules, which require that winners live or study in the lawmaker's district as well as the anti-nepotism clause. Initially, Johnson denied violating the anti-nepotism regulation. Now she has changed her position, saying that she "unknowingly" broke Congressional Black Caucus Foundation rules. "While I am not ashamed of helping, I did not intentionally mean to violate any rules in the process," Johnson wrote in a statement released Aug. 30.

Johnson intimated that she might not have picked relatives had there been more qualified applicants. Johnson says she'll repay the scholarship funds by week's end. Johnson's actions are troubling since awarding the scholarships violated anti-nepotism rules and went to students who neither live nor study in her district.

which side is obama showing?

Point of Order: 1] This weeks OP-ED in RollingOut. 2] Shouts out to Rainywalker - got thet $50 check for my shop - love u too jones.

For some reason or another, I am becoming more convinced that the president-elect may have forgotten about us common folks. He may have forgotten about a large mass of people such as me, albeit as a Libertarian, I did not vote for him. He may have not forgotten completely, as I don’t know if he ever enjoyed the educational privilege of those like me, who attended an HCBU.

On the surface, I am not really too thrilled by his cabinet picks, nor of the selection of Elizabeth Alexander. True, she is a prize-winning poet and professor of African American studies at Yale University. I don’t know if she will be his poet laureate, but I do know she will read a poem at the inauguration of the nation’s first African American president. And of his cabinet, some are top-notch selections. I just feel that a few more folk from Main Street (not Ivy Leaguers or folks in D.C.), could have been selected. Why not? Main Street runs just as effectively, if not more effectively as K Street or Pennsylvania Avenue.

Maybe I am overreacting, maybe not. However, Obama is not giving the appearance of change as was his mantra during his campaign. No, it looks like the same old elitists who have been running this country into the ground. I am willing to give him a chance — but of the poets, Paul Beatty, Anne Pierson Wiese, Sol, or Ben Doller could have been great choices as well. He could have even looked in his own backyard; Jeffery Renard Allen, who was born in Chicago, or the founder of the oldest black press in America — Haki Mahabuti Or he could have selected Herman Beavers, Terrance Hayes, Harryette Mullen, Crystal Williams, Evie Shockley, Joshua Clover, Reginald Shepherd or myself.

These are the common poets, those not from Harvard, Yale or Georgetown. They are regular people. Wonder which side Obama is showing now, the Ivy League-educated political elitist or the pick-up game loving community leader from the South Side of Chicago?

Monkey in the middle

I have repeated on inordinate occasions that I see no difference between democrats or the GOP. In my defense, I have asked for proof with regards to policy, affect and impact on problem solving and/or saying what they do. To this date no one has accepted this challenge and those that do tend to assert America is a democracy when I ask, as opposed to KNOWING it is a republic.

Now, as the typical Washington inside machine operates, it reared its selfish and good old folk head again. The U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama was appointed by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to the former attorney general of Illinois Roland Burris. When Jones got to Washington, The Senate good old boys told folk he was not accepted (his credentials were not in order). He was refused entry to the Senate based on them citing Article 1, Section 5 of the U.S. Constitution, which states "Each house shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members."

In two words – bull shit. This is purely political, blocking the appointment of one man because they dislike the other. And I tell ya if as many black folks who followed Beyoncee would follow this the same way, these folk in Washington would have a lot of noise back home in their districts. I was optimistic that Obama meant what he said, and would do accordingly. But I am slowly becoming disillusioned. He spoke of change, and not having the “good old boy” network of “Washington Insiders” in his administration – yet he does. I won’t even get on the usual talk of tax reduction, war ending and other stuff that all democrats and republicans chant like some Taoist mantra.

The situation with Burris is ridiculous and shows us how theatrical politic inside the beltway are. If I know the signature from the Illinois Secretary of State is not required but rather ceremonial, then they should too. Blagojevich legally appointed Burris to the seat vacated by President-Elect Obama. Now I don’t really give a care about Senate appointee Jones one way or the other, but I do care about the right of the Illinois citizenry. That's some of the dumbist shit I done seen in recent times. I mean they give more attention to this than the economy, the decline of the dollar, a non-existant manufacturing base, despots like the former NASDAQ Chairman (Madoff) or education.

As it stands, seems as if the Senate is reminiscent of a bunch of kids on the little rascals refusing another kid into the he man woman hatters club, or not letting a kid play with them because he friends with another kid they don’t like. Go pick on the kid you don’t like, Senator Burris aint done nothing wrong and should not be treated as if he is the governor. That man is 71 years old and you holding the ball over his head, and passing the buck like he a monkey in the middle.

Point of order: told yawl I could write a post about Beyoncee.

Universal Nincompoops

Wanted to thank all yawl for the kind words and support via last post. Now back to our regular scheduled programming. I love to make fun of stuff; I mean Satire is in my blood. I have always looked to the works of folk like Miguel de Cervantes and the greatest satirist of all from my purview – Voltaire. I even like some of the modern cats including but not limited to Dave Chappelle, Aaron McGruder , Jon Stewart, and Mel Brooks and don’t add SouthPark.

Through satire, me as a writer, is in a position to holds prevailing vices up to ridicule via the employment of wit and humor such to criticize any institution or individual – hopefully in an attempt that they might be improved. However, it appears that even satire is not safe from the fangs of political correctness and the new world order.

The United Nations committee has passed a “defamation of religions” resolution that seems to over ride the significance of free speech and the freedom of expression. For some reason, it seems that the UN doesn’t see that such expression is a right and freedom connected directly with individual thought, conscience and belief, and seems to miss the point that as an international body, that they should first proceed to protect people in exercising their freedom of religion, versus the singular protection of religions.

This single resolution says that satire is nothing more than defamation of religion and even Blasphemy. Blasphemy, like you can actually defame a thought or idea or even something that may be true. The main sponsors of the resolution are predominantly Muslim nations. This is the 4th year in a row in which the resolution has been approved. Do they know that folks like me or the writers of South Park, if ever in them countries, by the UN understanding, these got the places to arrest me and even put me to death, just cause I make fun of say, the Pope, or George Bush, or Christianity, or Islamic fanatics or even a monarch (by the way, the King of Saudi is supposed to be equal to a God). Guess talking about them off limits.

Satire is what keeps folks honest. It’s called humor, and the main outcomes are a smile or a laugh. I guess I will be held for I see the UN stands for Universal Nincompoops more so than United Nations and for all them Islamic Nations pushing this – suck a dic*. And while I'm at it throw on a vfew more years to my sentence for the terrorist should have flown planes into the UN. Now that is satire. Blaspheme that.

Dewey revisited

As I write this, I figure there are about 36 hours left before we find out who the next president of this great country will be. I hope Obama can pull it out, albeit I wrote my name in on the ballot, but I feel that McCain will be that next one. Unless he passes out on his 8 state tour tommorow and folks can see what old age will get them.

Don’t hate folk, let me just tell you why. First, I will never forget what I learned in History regarding Dewey and Truman. But that is besides the point. Mathematically, even including or not including McCain’s appearance on SNL, America has a history replete with skeletons in its closet. I don’t expect most white folks to agree but America was made and founded centrally on racism. This is a truism that even many of my arch nemesis will not disagree with. From the fundamentally flawed constitution which Obama spoke about concerning all other than white being three-fifths of white men; to the collective unconscious that may assert that many white folks feel they must do for African Americans before we do for ourselves. And dont let it rain, or be cold anywhere Obama urban supports live for they may not show up.

Hillary Clinton knew this and campaigned to this and is even seeing her words used in McCain’s robot calls. Admit it, a lot of yawl aint gone vote, yawl think it is in the bag. Shit yawl basically complacent, I mean you don’t read the constitution – tell me im wrong. Then add to that them folks that may be mad that Obama always on each and every magazine cover, and on TV all the time – they may just want to prove a point. Then there are some folks who never ever will believe nor support that a man of color will have the interest of them when they know and don’t expect folks like them to care about others – more greed and selfishness that has been a trade mark of the impact of race in America.

Then two-thirds of voters this time gone be using new technology, like optimal scanning machines that aint even been field tested. Add to that provisional ballots, where if your middle initial is missing from your name, or you address on your license is different for what ever reason – you may be obviated as being a legal voter, shit may hit the fan and law suits may hold off the announcement of a victor for days if not weeks. I mean when I see McCain, in places like Peterborough, New Hampshire, or any where, it’s hard to count folks who aint white in the crowd. This aint racist, just math, like not supporting Israel is anti Zionist and not anti Semitic. So if Obama looses don’t trip, its American and will always be the place where General Amherst gave Indians on the trail of tears blankets infected with small pox and where dogs and water hoses where put on folk demanding their un-alienable rights. Think I’m tripping, ask Joe Lieberman. And McCain has the nerve to say he won’t be tested - I just say this, Russia don’t give a fuck about you either; they still putting missiles in Cuba, because your boy GWB put them in Poland. I mean, folks don’t want change although most black folks do and some white folks, the average American like how they been living since they ganked the Indians for turkey and cranberries back in the day of the Mayflower.

icemans inheritance

point of order: My folk treated me to sea urchin (raw) and sake all last night - yum.

My first encounter with Anthropology, outside of an old text book my mother had from Tuskegee, was a book written by Michael Bradley called the Iceman’s Inheritance. Written in the 70s, the book provides a terse perspective regarding the Sources of European and Western Man's Racism and Aggression. He suggest that the historical pattern of racist behavior and actions of modern man is the social result of Neanderthal genetic traits of high aggression and emotional instability caused by Ice Age psychosexual maladaptation likely to have been engendered during the second glaciation Diop refers to as Wurm III Glaciation period beginning around 22000 B.C. to 8850 B.C. In summary racism is a result of the genetic psychosexual maladaptation of the Neanderthal – which were only in Europe.

Recently, seeing that we are just a few weeks away from the possibility that Senator Barack Obama, an African American, may be the next president of the United States. This could happen; however, if Bradley’s premise is accurate, it won’t for there may not be enough White voters to vote for him. The reality is that America was founded on racism, especially as directed towards the native inhabitants and the descendants of Africa. I have briefly written about the psychology of racism albeit indirectly via slavery. But I have never had the chance to discuss such from the political possibility of having a person as the president of this United States of America of African lineage.

The irony for me is that the man, who wrote the book I cited prior, has the last name of the effect that will likely occur if Senator Obama is not elected - the Bradley Effect. The Bradley Effect refers occurs when “White voters lie to pollsters about whom they will support because they don't want to appear to be racially biased against Black candidates. It collected its name from former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley following his 1982 losing bid to win the California governor's race. White voters told pollsters they were voting for Bradley however in the end they did not. In fact weeks before the election, Bradley led his opposition by 14 percentage points.

The Bradley Effect has impacted several races before and it doesn’t necessarily mean that Obama will lose. Virginia Lt. Governor L. Douglas Wilder had a substantial lead over the Republican J. Marshall Coleman, gubernatorial election but only managed to win by four-tenths of one percent. In New York, David Dinkins led Giuliani by 18 percent but only managed to win by less than 2 percent.

I say this because the pictures I have, the one at the top that I ganked from my boy Monroe Anderson and the one below that I ganked from my folk at RBG, say it all. It not only says what many are afraid to announce in public but also how some may see us no matter what our position and actions evince.

Add to this the race baiting tactics of John McCain and his partner in crime Sarah Palin (with her less than inch deep mental capacity) who show they have no class and will do or say anything to get elected, it wont surprise me none if Jones ends up loosing to John McCain. For it may be as Sidney Smith wrote regarding Jeremy Bentham The Book of Fallacies from his unpublished papers “There are a vast number of absurd and mischievous fallacies, which pass readily in the world for sense and virtue, while in truth they tend only to fortify error and encourage crime.” Because if it the race of ones skin that would make one not vote for a person over the substance of their ideas, then such is not only maladaptive and true hatred, but truly the Iceman’s Inheritance. vote

Mutha fuca please

I will be going on a brief hiatus from politics and the economy, or at least I think I am and that I will try my best. But seeing that it is very improbably that jones here will serve as some ones campaign advisor, better yet, the chief of staff; or will never ever be the president up in this camp, I got a few thangs I want to say about what I want to here from Obama and McCain and Nader, and McKinney, and Baldwin and Barr. So please preface the following statements with mutha fuca please:

  • Talk about the national debt
  • Talk about prosecuting the folk on Wall Street
  • Talk about eliminating penalties associated with capital gains, if one desires to use money from 401Ks or stocks that they liquidate from their portfolios if the have hardship or use the cash to start a business
  • Talk about regular jones the same way you talk about corporate jones
  • Talk about how we loose so much human capital via prison and the prison industrial complex and how you would treat drug use as a health issue and not a crime.
  • Talk about helping to engender small business growth and reinvigorating the manufacturing sector.
  • Talk about how you will increase the value of the dollar
  • Talk about screening for the best teachers and paying them as if they are the best and connect education to the collective economic well being of America
  • Talk about freezing the rise in pay for senators and congressmen and the need for them not to give themselves a pay raise every 6 months
  • Talk about why the lower and middle class folks can’t and don’t have good paying jobs or afford homes and what you plan to do to fix that.
Yawl need to ask the folks some serious questions jones and keep the kats on point. Whew, I'm Ghost.

the vultures are circling

I was trying not to write until, or post until Thursday and I had some tight stuff too. But as yawl know I be on my loot and have spent most of this day transferring funds to locations overseas. First of all, give me my props, I have been talking about the future financial gloom for the past 2 years. I have also said that neither Obama nor McCain talked about such and when they did, they seemed to sound like first graders trying to outline the quantum mechanical principle formulated by Wolfgang Pauli in 1925 in his exclusion principal.

I mean, although yawl say Im boring, I have been trying to warn yawl for a while.
But I recognized such was not as important as discussing lil wayne, Brittney Spears or Kanye West to many.

Briefly, in September of last year I spoke of the decline in the value of the dollar
. Then in December I wrote about the 500 Billion folks appropriated on the Omnibus Appropriations Bill. In January I wrote about how the economy was gone be in shamble for whoever the next president was gone be. Later that same month I wrote about the fucked up fundamentals involved, or should I say thinking regarding passing a 150$ billion economic emergency rescue bill in an attempt to stimulate the economy. To me it was like giving a blood transfusion to a dead man. I even suggested like the Roman empire, whose economy really caused its demise, so would be rthe future of this country.

In March I started to drop game on the lame. I stated how important it was to have money outside of the US in places like say Seychelles.
Especially given how our export trade deficit was approaching 60 billion annually. In April I had finally gotten the chance to read McCain’s, or what McCain called an economic plan and I wasn’t impressed. I also talked about another sign, of countries like Iran switching from the dollar to the Euro for pricing petroleum and oil. As well as the first on a few post on the Yuan and its impact on the dollar and china on our economy.

In May I took it a step farther suggesting the possibility of within two years, that the price of Crude Oil will be hovering around $200 a barrel. In June it was getting worse so I suggested in a post for folks don’t be surprised if the next war will be hear with folks running up peoples cribs stealing grits, gas and tuna fish. Followed behind how for me it was a recession and that only those in the future who were gone eat would be those who paid themselves and grew they own food.

In July I wrote about how our economy had not been this bad since the 20s and 30s, since now we have a domestic financial debt of more than 20 trillion dollars, with a national debt of 350% of our GDP. Especially since the government seems to think the constitution said we the corporation instead of we the people. Then I went on to talk more about my concerns with China and how the housing market aint been this bad in 70 years. And how it aint all on the government cause we common folk spend instead of save. Dont even add how we were being bought up by foreign countries and ten banks failing this year alone, one could see, from this minds purview, that the writing was on the wall.

This is why I am very rigid on both McCain and Obama. McCain, is likely the most false and stupid.
Yesterday folk said the fundamentals of the economy is sound, to quickly follow with pointing fingers (which a leader does not do). I cant see anyone letting him get away with this, seeing he has 7 houses and his wife is one of the big whigs that makes loot off of such reckless behavior.

We cant keep bailing out the rich. It is not sound economics. And we dont have enough loot thanks to two wars and wasteful spending on Behalf of the past eight years, Of George Bush and deregulation started by Clinton - and throw in some international trade agreements.
What will be next? Well don’t sleep, Qatar and the Emirates and Saudi and yes, China is in the back ground like Vultures in the sky, ready to buy up all the waste of the Greenspan, Bernake, Bill Clinton and Regan and Bush crews fucked up.
Like I said folk , this is only the beginning jones. Goldman Sachs Group quarterly profit plunged 70% over the last quarter alone. And before tomorrow, the Feds will likely give some bridge funding to keep Insurance Giant AIG solvent. And Don’t be surprised if WAMU and Wachovia be next this week. So look in the sky, no it aint falling, but the Vultures are circling. And don't forget, I told you so. Giess you can take a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. Unless they drinking an Interview with R Kelly on BET. vote

Slacking on your Macking

Maybe its just me, but it seems as if all political has gotten off target. Especially when I look at the Obama campaign. The way I see it there are about 50 days left to the super bowl. He needs to be in the tunnel, screaming and ready to take the field. But for some reason he is slacking in his macking, he aint got his game face on, and unfortunately, he has gotten distracted and taken the bait McCain put in front of him. He has been more focused on Sara Palin, Lipstick, Pigs and waffles than on his own play book.

He even act as if he doesn’t see that that is exactly what the opposition desires, for they aint talked about nothing of substance with any semblance of astuteness to this day. Shit, we, the general public know more about lil momma than John McCain. Now I’m not taking sides but I must give my folk an informed heads up on what may be required.

First, fuck talking about McCain trying to say he for change. Let folk talk, he will eventually put a foot in his mouth. Instead, talk about his record, being a friend of big business; make him one of them, saying he is not the common man like (George W. Bush). The best way to do this is to associate it directly to the economy, specifically the failing Housing market. How can a man with more than 5 houses know what such an experience is like? Make sure that you connect him to this in tangible and political terms. Ask where has he been for the past 2 plus decades when all these problems started? Why historically, has he been against regulation of the Securities Exchange Commission and in support of the hideous accounting practices that hide pertinent information to the common investor (like George Bush)? Point out that he believes the market is self correcting, but query as to how can such be, if the problem we see in housing is due to folks on Wall Street paying people to rate securities as being solid or good when they are not (like George Bush)?

They take unprecedented action to save the Big Financial Institutions like the investment bank Bear Stearns but nothing for the common man. Particularly Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Christopher Cox. One of the men McCain was considering as a VP running mate. Make special note of how the Senate banking Committee asked Cox if legislation or more resources would be needed to prevent future problems such as these from occurring, even suggesting that the credit rating institutions, who are paid by wall street to rate securities (MBS’s), have a inherit conflict of interest, and that he said no, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had to be bailed out like Bear Stearns. Can you say corporate welfare? This is not the common man. No wonder China owns 374 billion of US debt in the form of mortgage loans/debt (I spoke of MBS’s a while back).

True, Mccain got a little game, or else u would not have let Jones campaign buy the rights to the top search engines on key election terms. Jones I’m telling you, ignore the mundane and attack your opponent weakness. His ability to think and side against the common man. I’d even bring up that he was a POW, and that he needs to release to the public that he has been screened for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, for no one with such should be answering that Red phone at 3am. Now get busy folk, get your game face on and stop slacking in your macking. Just my two cents, that is if you wanna win, and I got more too. vote

crook by another name is John McCain

Jones mane, folk here by all accounts is African – if a cat has kittens in an oven, don’t make them biscuits. But my heart is here, America, American me folk. So I talk and criticized for the common good, and in good faith, something that ALL politicians don’t know how to do, least since the FDR days, since now they tend to respond or react as opposed to think. So as a result, I have been very critical of these folk who are running to be this nations commander in chief.

Now don’t expect nothing sensational, nope jones, I just wanna be really real with thought. I mean I am Meek, just that and recant that Jesus was meek, but he would place the plague on yo azz with the quickness.

See for me, I have held Obama to a certain level, objective without age, race or him wearing his faith on his sleeve as being a factor. Such has been waited out; maybe that’s why some folks think I’m hard on Jones. I have done the same with McCain, with all of the prior, in addition to him not wearing his faith on his sleeve as canceling out.

Sometimes I think Obama just don’t know what he be saying or is just unaware of what his staff write policy wise for him. But McCain, I think folk think I’m stupid. Now I wont start with his recent debacle, when Tallahassee Democrat senior writer Stephen Price on Friday was thrown out of his rally. I mean so he was the only Black reporter, and so what none of the other local press was removed, I wont touch that. And nope, I wont touch what he said when he addressed the National Urban League, when he mentioned that he would employ military’s tactics in Iraq as the model for crime-fighting in American urban areas (code word for where black folk live).

No but on disposition and policy I will. Even when it comes to economics, education and yes, even the energy policy, he maintains a banal and sublime approach to problem solving that on the one hand condemns his opponents for beliefs his fellow GOP comrades have and maintain. Like Obama on pressure in tires to save gas, when the current governor of California have; but also with respect to nuclear power; when The two Bushes and Regan held a similar stance to the democratic front runner. I mean, he tends to come across as if he can only proffer that a military solution is an answer to all things. He suggest we expand our current off shore drilling when it would be more economically feasible to be looking at the Black Sea, especially if folks like Exxon Mobil, who suspect that there may be 10 billion barrels of oil reserves in the Black Sea.

It would not even surprise me if he sided with Attorney General Michael Mukasey’s call for Congress to authorize the indefinite subverting of the right of habeas corpus for any one, even US citizens to be detained if suspected as being a terrorist, over the side of liberty. This is problematic for me since he says that he agrees and continue handling the current war as GWB does. What “Mukasey is asking is for Congress to extend the war on terror forever and that folk the president say is a terrorist can be held indefinitely without a trial.

He already wants to stay in Iraq for ever, and his position on the Gaza Strip, makes me think that he may actually be one of the terrorist he himself describes. He supports Israel doing what it must to defend and protect itself, even if that includes the Israel's secret police withholding medical treatment to Palestinians in Gaza. Shin Bet Started interrogating Palestinian patients who needed to go to Israel for medical service after they set up the blockaded (which McCain supports). One would think a former POW would not support the practice of taking the sick underground to windowless rooms and using the threat of not getting medical help as a way to get them to tell on others.

And I aint picking on McCain, for just as Obama, they don’t really have an inkling of anticipation of what they are in for, but hat worries me is not just his stance on the war but as I mentioned briefly, his disposition toward problem solving. From his inability to stay on point with a decision (as he did on taxes saying he is down with a higher payroll tax for Social Security, when he pledged not to raise taxes of any kind ) to his open hypocrisy via using loop holes in his own campaign finance reform law (McCain-Feingold). He does this by using folks like the Republican Governors Association (RGA), a 527 with no donation limits.

Even on topical issues regarding ethics, he has failed my test, but so has Obama. But such is the mark of desperation for his attack machine aint even started yet. And best belive the GOP hoodrats will be in rare form. So another election year, and another ballot in which I will write my name in instead of either of the aforementioned.

kabul b4 december

I know a many are geared regarding the upcoming general elections to be held in November and regardless if you want Obama, McCain or Nadar to win, just do me one favor, ask them some well thought out and prospective questions regarding Afghanistan. Yep, I am about to bore you with another haterated triad.

I have come to accept that most folk don’t get me jones. And when I say I don’t give a fk bout certain things, they say I’m disrespectful or berating folks. So I am about to do more of the same. I feel that the ability to ask pointed questions, especially with respect to having some knowledge of possible solutions is the key to evaluating responses from any candidate for any office and or job. And for some reason or another, what’s going on in Afghanistan scares the shit out of me.

Just last week it was reported that say about 200 Taliban fighters attacked a US military base located in the distant and mountainous northeast province of Kunar. They say it resulted in nine dead US soldiers and nearly a score of wounded. It aint been that many US military personnel killed in a single attack in more than three

For some reason, it appears that over the past seven months, the Taliban has gotten stronger, smarter and more brazen as opposed to what the current administration has been telling us. I mean it seem like it was just yesterday when folk was saying that they had accomplished victory and had won the war in this poppy growing country. Report released by the Pentagon on the situation, among other things said “the Taliban is likely to maintain or even increase the scope and pace of its terrorist attacks and bombings in 2008. The Taliban will challenge the control of the Afghan government in rural areas, especially in the south and east."

They say that this is a problem for the current administration; I feel that it is more of a problem for which ever jones steps in office after the elections in November. These attacks just aint on the outskirts, they like a hop, skip and a jump from the capitol Kabul. The Capitol. And this recent attack was just one of many against a military base which they hitting up the regular now, not to mention it lasted all day. And this based had about 200 US troops. No little bitty convoy and it lasted all day.

When I do get a chance to hear what folks are talking about politically, they just be rehashing messages from stump speeches with little content. All I have heard Sen. Barack Obama say is that he will send two more combat brigades to Afghanistan and that he may take the troops from Iraq. All I know about Nadar is something he said 6 years ago regarding sending a small multinational force into Afghanistan to arrest Osama bin Laden. McCain, well first he disagreed with Obama saying more troops were not needed; now he is copying Obama’s position on the issue (u can read his flip flop history here at Obsidian wings, which is on my blog roll).

Like I said, I think we got to frame this issue and make it apart of the discussion, Iraq seems to get all of the attention, I am glad they TRYING to talk about the economy, albeit none from a global or international perspective in terms of problem solving (correct me if I’m wrong). Just talk of green Jobs and stuff like that. But about this small country, I’m not so sure, for at this rate, the Taliban will be in Kabul by December and in control of the government, again.

joining the rest of the civilized world

These rickety splitting politicians, including Obama, talk about health care as if it is an easy problem to solve. All like I said have put of some big-worded proposals on the table that sound delicious in sound bit form on the surface. Clinton REQUIRES all citizens to have coverage versus Obama’s plan to start with children first. In addition, I have noticed that a thorough review of McCain’s plan (although he use the Mantra of Obama now which is making health insurance more affordable) sounds like he is dealing with a telephone monopoly by suggesting his goal is to foster more competition in an effort to reduce costs and improve the delivery of services. He also wants to provide folks with a refundable $2,500 tax credit as an incentive to buy insurance.

Similar to McCain, Hillary Clinton plan also focuses on lowering costs and improving quality. I find the latter with respect to both McCain and Clinton as being feculent given that America has the best health care in the world. So to me, improving the quality of our health care misses the point.

Although I believe the Obama's plan is the most practical and comprehensive (not hard for a c minus to beat 2 D pluses), he too misses the point on the general issues at hand. As I read his prospectus, he is more concerned about specifics such as mental health, Autism, AIDS and Mercury Pollution. True, he as clinton and McCain want to expand research and place the Insurance companies in check, they still don’t seem to have a veridical or pragmatic approach to health care.

Truth is none of these folks running for president seem to notice the wide range of cost for the same procedures across states and even hospitals in the same states. Using me as an example, which I think is most folks, know who offers the best service in anything and who has the lowest prices. As a consequence, folks tend to go, and are willing to drive to those institutions that have both and the politician’s plans do not address this. Moreover, none even talk or mention the fact that there is a very demanding shortage of Nurses and physicians in America. They also do not deal or address the fact that medicine and health care is being run by business men as opposed to physicians and scientist - foul. Thats like having wall street run by a maid to me.

I know many folks say that health care is a privilege as opposed to a right and accordingly, some folks really believe that only people who can afford health insurance should have it. Such a premise is primitive to me. I mean, what will these folks say 20 years from now when there is a worldwide food shortage? Will they say that only people who can afford food deserve to eat? We are talking about mainly people who are working and still can’t afford health care or the massive deductibles required before the benefits of insurance kick in. Having universal health care will not do anything and may not even help. So big wig politicians, revamp, focus on trying to get more folks insured as opposed to all folks. By doing the previous it is easier to accomplish the latter. Otherwise we will be in the same boat and with respect to health, America will never join the rest of the civilized world.

Hook, line & sinker

As you can see from the prior post, your folk may be rawdawgbuffalo, but I do have a heart, at least my children think so. But back to the regular rigamaroo. I had to get this off of my chest before the Memphis-Gonzaga game that comes own at noon (when i started this post). But I do have one question? How many of yawl votes hands down for democratic candidates? I am just asking because I personally don’t feel they (nor the republicans) have our best interest at hand. As well, I do not subscribe to the argument that they are the less of two evils. Unfortunately, I just think they are better a marketing their selves to black folk. This is to say that Republicans do not care that much about us and as result do not even attempt to secure any part of the massive voting block we represent. In contrast, the democrats do not care as well but their over-zealous pursuit for becoming elected enables them to smile and address us as a community more than the republicans. If you look at it, its just like fast food restaurants. Burger King and Churches have more joints in our community than Ruth Crisp Steakhouse and as a consequence, we eat at Burger King and Churches more. Couple that with the fact that the advertise to us more we eat there more but it doesn’t mean that they are inevitably healthy food choices for us – but we eat there anyway. Historically, the democrats use race as a form of political marketing more than any other party. Often, their sissified nature makes them; especially if they are white, use key words like “the poor”, “underclass” and “under-employed” to represent black folks. The strange thing is that I is they and the republicans equally who talk about playing the race card, in addition to the media. I mean, just the other night, I passed through the channels looking for some basketball and stopped on CNN. The question they were asking: “Was Bill Clinton the first Black President?” Now I could not figure why any REAL news outlet would make such a query. To me it was like asking if George Bush was the first Martian Bigfoot president. It is not us who own these outlets or produce the nature of the political shows, but sensationalist that prefer to have folks focus on the inconsequential.

The real race issue is that race in
Amerikkka is a factor and in this present campaign and all prior and future ones to come. In fact, outside of the economy, two of the major issues folks running on involve race: Iraq and immigration. So I ask you, why do many of us vote democratic only? Especially since now Senator John Edwards has dropped out of the race, what does this mean for the nomination. Will it solidify the block of voters that do not want to see another Clinton in office? Or will is serve to solidify white voters who do not want nor desire to see an African American in the Whitehouse? Even yet, will it solidify those men that do not want to see a woman in the Whitehouse? These are just a few queries. I mean based on history, a similar phenomena occurred when Richard Nixon was elected president. If my history serves me correctly after an assassination and Hubert Humphrey dropped out the race, the Republican Nixon was elected basically without contest. And the issue about race is real and does not let anyone tell you otherwise. America was built on racism and unfortunately, many whites will feel that their obligation, if democrat, will be to support Hillary. Even more so, those that move beyond this, and fell that if Obama is awarded the democratic nomination, although they say they are democrats, will likely vote for John McCain.

The great African scholar and politician
Kwame Nkrumah in his book AFRICA MUST UNITE (wanna say page 24 but its been 20 yrs since i read it) defined racism and indicated that in order for one to be a racist, the had to be in a position of power to subjugate other races to adopt their standards. Not prejudice which can be equal across all individuals but racism. I say this on the eve of the democratic debate to extend the question, why is it that black folk vote hook, line and sinker for democrats? I think I explained it briefly in detail above. So don’t be surprised is one of the three voting outcomes occur, according to this life long Libertarian – yes my folks are libertarian. I mean, how many of yawl that happen to be African American can say the voted for someone other than a democratic candidate, even those who claim to be independent? I rest my case.

whom side they own

Sometimes I wonder whom side they own, you know government and politrixters. It seems that it is not on the side of logic, the public hard work, and the community. The priority has to be elsewhere. After the collapsing of that bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota it dawned on me that the general infrastructure of this country, with the exception of a few cities like Atlanta, do not regularly work on highways, add runways, or replace water lines in the city.

Most cities I travel too in the states, including my home town of Memphis have poor highway systems and such makes me think that the rest of the infrastructure, needs serious examination too. From Raliegh, to Orlando, to DC even, the highways systms, if any indication of other systems, are on the surface delpidated and antiquated.

In Minnsota for example, two reports published since talked about "the bridge's deck truss system” having “many poor fatigue details on the main truss and the floor truss system" but that is beside th point. The point is that we as Americans, especialy the political class are more focused on the present and quick fixes and are no far thinking anymore as , let us say Africans, East Indians and the Chinesee. We fail to think long term and lean towards “if it aint broke, don’t fix it” instead of “let’s make some new main.”

Then there was before this, the c, which was lauded as an “engineering marvel”. Which opened 13 January 2006 at a staggering cost of $14.6 billion. Noted problems of this edifice included thousands of leaks in the ceiling and wall fissures and A fatal accident on July 11, 2006 where part of the ceiling collapsed connecting I-90 to the Ted Williams Tunnel.

The problem outside of the aforemention could be that these things are controlled by quasi-governmental agiences of “Authorities” or “Systems’”that are not accountable t the general public. Like the the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority.

Even still, we will see a lot more problems, it was only a mater of time given that 2005 was the 50th anniversary of the creation of the U.S. Interstate Highway System. So that means it’s old as fuck, and just imagine the dams and yes, the bridges. But hat can one expect, when the folk yell vote for and place in office prefer to build shit in Iraq that are blown up after we finish, not even talk about such as a campaign issue, or worse with folks from Katrina still with nothing two years latter. Glad I know America is a republic and not a democracy and landowners make decision. Boy am I thankful for my 11-acres. Maybe something good can come of this, maybe; vast improvements to infrastructure, Prince starting a scholarshop fund for the children of victims - showing these new artist what civil responsibility is (not making it rain in a strip club).

the good, the bad, the 527s (5.2.05)

Once upon a time, politics were controlled by the unlimited
spending practices of political parties. This is no longer the case.
However, money is still running all things politically related
to campaigns and legislation.
Organizations that are set up to raise money for political
activities, including voter mobilization efforts, are called 527s.
They represent the Swift Boats veterans and the Moveon.orgs
of the world. They are special interest groups that purchase
television and radio advertisement to promote their political
agendas. This enhanced political freedom has resulted in a
dramatic change in the manner in which political elections
are run. They have more freedom than political parties to
raise funds and may use it as they please.
It was initially believed that once the McCain-Fiengold Bill
(the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act) was passed, this type
of soft money spending would be significantly affected.
Since it was not, politicians seemed to make more trouble
for themselves, since anyone has the ability to control
the messages they put out.
Last year, these so-called 527s spent approximately
400 million on their political agendas and advertising to
promote their beliefs and their political candidates. These
organizations are independent, more so than political action
committees—and have the ability to make politicians address
issues that they would otherwise have avoided. Since most
politicians use the focus group methodology to decide what
they will use for talking points and selecting sounds bites,
527s have the capacity to force the issue from outside of
the political process. Thanks to Capitol Hill, for this is another
fine mess you have gotten us into. --torrance stephens
